Bilhal Kone is set to miss his rookie season after picking up an ACL and MCL injury during the Baltimore Ravens’ preseason fixture against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday. The game took place at the Ravens’ M&T Bank Stadium.

Near the end of the first quarter, Colts quarterback Daniel Jones threw a pass to Ashton Dulin, man-marked by Kone in the red zone.

Dulin failed to catch the high pass as Kone held on to him. The 23-year-old defensive back lost his footing. Moments later, the cameras caught him holding his left leg, which dangled in the air.

It was a horrible sight. ESPN’s Mike Garafolo reported that the medical team rushed to the spot and put an air cast on Bilhal Kone’s left leg before carting him away from the stadium.

Bilhal Kone will miss the new season

Ravens’ head coach John Harbaugh later revealed that Kone tore his ACL and MCL. Kone will miss the upcoming 2025 season.

Kone had an interesting journey to the NFL. He started out at Iowa Central Community College. After bagging consecutive conference honors, he transferred to Indiana State, where he recorded 36 tackles and 6 pass deflections in 2022 before entering the NCAA transfer portal and signing for Western Michigan.

In two seasons at WM, Kone accumulated 112 tackles, with three being for a loss, 17 pass deflections, and two interceptions. The Ravens drafted Kone in the sixth round (178th overall).

Unfortunately, Kone will miss his rookie NFL season due to injury.

Ravens outplayed the Colts

Lamar Jackson did not participate in the game for the Ravens. Harbaugh gave the debut to new signing Cooper Rush, whose first contribution as a Raven was throwing an interception. Harbaugh let the run game flourish with Keaton Mitchell, Rasheen Ali, and D’Ernest Johnson combined to rush for over 150+ yards and two touchdowns.

Sixth-round draft pick Devin Leary, out of Kentucky, replaced Rush for the rest of the game. Leary completed just 3 passes from 12 attempts for 43 yards and one interception. He further added 15 yards on the ground from 6 attempts.

The Colts, on the other hand, lost Anthony Richardson very early on due to injury. Daniel Jones replaced Richardson and contributed 10 completions from 21 for 144 yards (47% pass completion).

Shane Steichen introduced his sixth-round rookie quarterback, Riley Leonard, into the game later on. Leonard threw 12 completions from 24 tries for 92 yards and one interception. He further added 24 yards on the ground from 4 tries.

Running back Khalil Herbert, who signed in the offseason from the Bengals, rushed 7 times for 29 yards and scored one touchdown. Fifth-round pick DJ Giddens and undrafted RB Ulysses Bentley IV rushed for a combined 52 yards from 13 attempts.

In their two remaining preseason games, the Colts will host the Green Bay Packers at Lucas Oil Stadium and travel to Paycor Stadium to face the Cincinnati Bengals. The Ravens, on the other hand, travel to Arlington to play the Dallas Cowboys and wrap up their preseason games by hosting the Washington Commanders in Baltimore.
