During his time with the New England Patriots– where he brought six Super Bowl trophies, head coach Bill Belichick aimed to break the ultimate record of Don Shula and become the all-time win leader in the history of the NFL. However, just like he parted ways from the Patriots last season, he is finally moving on from the league.
Following the conclusion of the college football regular season, the former head coach-turned-analyst has officially signed with the University of North Carolina for a five-year lucrative deal worth $50 million. This marks the end of his legendary career in the NFL and a new beginning in collegiate football.
While the decision to part ways with the NFL was not easy for Belichick, he thought it was time for him to move on after feeling “disgusted” by what the NFL has become now. “This is a big f*** you to the NFL,” a source close to Belichick told ESPN’s Seth Wickersham, who dived into a thorough report and analysis of the reasons behind this major career move by the 72-year-old former NFL star head coach.

Bill Belichick embraces new chapter as UNC head coach and aims to restore team’s prominence
Regardless of what many say, the former NFL head coach is actually looking forward to starting fresh in college football. Although North Carolina is not part of the NFL program yet, Belichick intends to utilize the UNC coaching staff to regain the team’s prominence which it once used to have.
“On the staff, we’ll hire the best coaches we can hire,” said Belichick during his introductory press conference as UNC head coach.
His goal at UNC is to make the university an NFC program and for that, he has sought all the details accessible for payment of the staffers and created an “organization bible” which he wants the entire team to abide by.
