Bill Belichick takes cheeky dig at Woody Johnson quashing all theories of him becoming Jets’ next coach
Robert Saleh, not having the time to show Woody Johnson how he would lead the New York Jets, did not sit well with Bill Belichick.

This NFL season brought a new level of unpredictability when it came to football games. Favorites lost whereas preseason expectations for some were demolished.
But the New York Jets topped it all when owner Woody Johnson fired head coach Robert Saleh after their week 5 loss. Despite some fingers pointed at quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the legendary head coach Bill Belichick felt otherwise.
The eight-time Super Bowl-winning coach was speaking on ESPN’s Manning Cast. As they were covering the Monday Night Football game between the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills, Belichick couldn’t help but talk about the Jets’ current state.
Belichick was not too happy with the owner letting go of Robert Saleh this early in the season. He felt the now-former HC did not have sufficient time to show if the team were good enough under him.
Bill Belichick goes OFF on Woody Johnson and the #Jets:

"I'm not a big Jets fan, in case you don't know that…They've barely won over 30% in the last 10 years. The owner being the owner… ready, fire aim."

But after saying that, he talked about how owner Woody Johnson is. As someone who was once the head coach of the team for one full day, he did not have a high opinion of the owner. The 72-year-old is not a fan of Johnson, especially with his impatient handling of the team.
When Bill Belichick was the head coach of the New England Patriots for 24 seasons, Woody Johnson hired and fired seven head coaches. On average, none of those seven managed to win more than 50% of the games. Further proving his point that the Jet’s owner’s methods have not brought success.
Bill Belichick has high praise for Robert Saleh
Calling out Woody Johnson was one part of his rhetoric during Monday Night Football. But Bill Belichick had a few good words to talk about Robert Saleh.
The longtime coach makes it clear that he has nothing but admiration for Robert Saleh. He saw some things that a head coach needs to have if the team is to be successful.
This year with Aaron Rodgers back, it was the first time that Saleh had an elite QB to lead his team. Belichick noted how the slow start to the season had nothing to do with the former head coach or his methods.
Belichick would have liked it if Saleh had time to work his methods in. A full season with Aaron Rodgers at QB would have been a better judgment of his time. Instead, the Jets are back in the same cycle of trying to find a head coach.
