Bill Belichick has lived most of his life in football as a coach. After two plus decades as the head coach of the New England Patriots, the now 72-year-old is looking towards a college job with rumors of UNC in the fold. Considering his interest in continuing coaching, this might be the move for him to get back to what he loves doing.

But the multiple-time Super Bowl winner wanted to stay in the NFL. However, most teams were scared of giving him the control that he desired, especially knowing how his last few years without a top quarterback turned out.

Apparently, even his former employer had warned potential teams from trying to give him a job. Since then, he has taken up roles on television, primarily as a recurring cast of The ManningCast, a show with Peyton and Eli Manning.

But now the UNC rumors have come about suggesting that Bill Belichick is itching to return to coaching. But insider Brett McMurphy feels the vacancy at the University of North Carolina Tar Heels was not just the reason for Belichick to interview for the job.

I think it shows that he’s tired of doing the ManningCast and not being involved in football. And yeah, I think he wants to do this.

Brett McMurphy said on You Better You Bet Podcast

The longtime college football insider does feel that Belichick prefers coaching than sitting on a couch and talk football on television. For someone who has steered teams to win Super Bowls, he might as well be on the field doing that than watching it unfold on TV.

Brett McMurphy feels Bill Belichick has thought this through before interview with UNC

Currently, there are two teams which have interim head coaches running the show. Once the season comes to a close, a few more jobs could open up. Knowing that, the interview with UNC seems a bit premature for a head coach who wants to return to the NFL. But Brett McMurphy feels Belichick has thought this through.

Belichick obviously thinks everything out. Belichick is not going to be like, ‘You know what I feel like doing? I’m going to go interview for the Carolina job and then go and get lunch.’ He’s not going to waste time in talking to a school about a job unless he is really interested.

Brett McMurphy added

The insider believes that considering the intelligence Bill Belichick has shown so far in his coaching career, it would not be a long shot to believe he does not like the opportunities in the NFL. He may even look at it as a job that he could use to return to the NFL in a few years.

As there is nothing better than giving NFL owners the idea that the coach that is Bill Belichick is still great if he can help UNC make strides in college football. The only question is if Belichick takes the UNC job once more openings appear in the NFL.
