Bill Simmons fears Tom Brady’s involvement in the Raiders may have negative effect on the franchise
Tom Brady has made a positive mark on the Las Vegas Raiders so far but Bill Simmons believes the Raiders should be careful while picking the quarterback because it might create a clash of interest with Brady.

The Las Vegas Raiders will be in the heart of it when the NFL draft process kicks off in Green Bay. It’s no secret that Tom Brady will be calling the shots during the process so that the Raiders can draft a suitable new franchise quarterback.
From the outside, the setup looks and feels like a win-win situation. Brady’s expertise as a seven-time Super Bowl champion is sure to come in handy while selecting the best young quarterback for the Raiders.
Long-time admirer of Tom Brady, Bill Simmons is thrilled with the idea of the 47-year-old pulling the strings and orchestrating the Raiders back to their glory days. However, even an optimist like Simmons has doubts about Brady’s involvement.
During the latest episode of his podcast, the veteran sports writer/critic argued that perhaps the former quarterback’s involvement isn’t such a great step for the Raiders.
This is a dangerous thing where you have him running a football team thinking he knows what’s best with quarterbacks because he was a great quarterback. Because all of the evidence with the great players we’ve had, name the sport; mostly they’re not good at this. They think they’re seeing things that other people don’t see, and it’s not actually rational.
Bill Simmons told NFL’s Peter Schrager
Brady being the minority owner of the Raiders gives him leverage to speak his mind. According to reports from Dianna Russini of the Athletic, Brady had a hand in picking Pete Carroll as the new head coach and poaching John Spytek from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to make him the new general manager of the Raiders. It will not surprise anyone if Brady actively plays a role in selecting a new quarterback.
Why is Tom Brady’s involvement not a good thing for the Raiders?
The Raiders hold the sixth overall pick in the draft. According to the latest round of Mel Kiper’s draft projection, the Raiders will select a new quarterback. Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward are the two candidates eyed as the new face of the franchise.

However, drafting a quarterback isn’t the only option available. The Raiders can go free agency diving and get players such as Daniel Jones, Sam Darnold, or even Aaron Rodgers. Now if someone in the Raiders board says they want to bring in either Darnold or Rodgers, Brady holds the leverage to nullify that request.
Part of the problem is if you and I are in that room with Tom Brady and we were like, ‘Yo man, we think Darnold, look…” and he’s like, ‘I’m out. I watched that game, and he doesn’t have it. I’m out.’ Are we going to argue with Tom Brady? It’s just now it’s this one voice that sees what he wants to see.

Brady’s involvement is a double-edged sword for the Raiders. So far he has been given a conditioned reign because he is also part of FOX. Only time will tell whether Brady’s participation helps the Raiders end their eternal rebuild or prolongs it even further.
