NFL players are physically gifted athletes who have strived to be the best football players throughout their lives. Once they get to that stage, they tend to show off their accomplishments at every possible opportunity. Analyst Bill Simmons believes one particular show off has a feeling similar to s**.

The showoff celebration in question is what transpired in Week 15 of this NFL season. Two players ran all the way to the end zone, only to drop the ball right before the goal line. In both situations, players felt they scored the touchdowns, but replays showed the ball did not cross the line.

A similar incident happened in Week 9 when New York Jets rookie wide receiver Malachi Corley dropped the ball right before crossing into the end zone. The Jets ended up winning the game, but had the play made an impact on the game, it is possible the rookie would have heard from Aaron Rodgers about it.

Analyst Bill Simmons, watching all this unfold, wanted to figure out what made these players seemingly undo all the hard work they did right up until that point. While on The Bill Simmons Podcast, he gave a bizarre comparison.

Do people blackout when they’re about to score? It’s the only thing I can think of. Is it like having an org***? Where you just kind of lose perspective, like brraaahhahhhahhhhh, and you just lose the ball? What other explanation could there be? Do you literally, like, blackout?

The long-time analyst pointed out that it happens far too often now in the NFL nowadays. As professional players, the least they are expected is to see what others have done wrong and ensure they don’t do the same.

NFL players showboating has had its problems

This is not the first time football players have had trouble with showboating. As elite athletes, they tend to do it as a mark of showing their superiority. Many a times they get away without it affecting either the game or offending anyone.

But there have been instances of celebrations negatively impacting a game. One of the most common penalties issued in football is the ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’. Referees take no time to throw a flag when they felt a player was taking his show of superiority a bit too far.

In some cases, it slips the eyes of officials, but the NFL is there to clear things up and award penalties as they seem fit. Many argue this has taken the edge off the game. However, the league is trying to keep a balance and not allow anything to tilt to one side.

But as per Bill Simmons, the least the players could do is to clean up such blunders. Their touchdown celebrations are entertaining as long as the ball crosses the line. Otherwise, they are hindering themselves as well as their teams.
