LeBron James is about to enter season 23 of his illustrious basketball career. Other than his impact on the court, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is also the 1st active player to become a billionaire.
By the time he cashes his 23rd season paycheck, he will have amassed $581 million in basketball salary. It is unclear what amount of it is left, but the 40-year-old is generally known to be frugal.
He does not spend on luxurious cars or other material possessions. Instead, he uses his money to invest. Be it sports teams, movies, a production company, or even a men’s grooming line, the Akron native has a vast portfolio.
Even his lifetime endorsement deal with Nike is known to have fed him a lot of dollars. Forbes estimates that the major chunk of his $1.3 billion net worth has come from his off-court endorsements and investments.
With every passing year, that net worth continues to rise. Going by the rumors of how he is planning for retirement, there is a big chance that he will surge towards $2 billion in a few years.
When speaking with Speedy Morman on his podcast, the host asked the Los Angeles Lakers superstar about his net worth. James first asked if Morman wanted him to lie, and then said this:
Google search is a lie. It’s way less. There’s a couple of thousand in my bank. That’s it… I ain’t got no money man.

The 4-time champion had a sly smile on his face while he was saying this, knowing that nobody on the internet would accept what he said. LeBron James was trying to be as uncontroversial as possible while talking about his net worth.
Fans lose their minds after LeBron James reveals his bank balance
Sports fans know that when Forbes lists an individual’s net worth, they do so after spending a lot of time and money researching the said person. Therefore, there is no way they are wrong about LeBron James‘ net worth.
Fans believe the 4-time league MVP was trying to play tricks with his fans, knowing they would say anything and everything about him. They understand he was not going to confirm what Forbes claimed.
However, when he stated that he just had a couple of thousand dollars in his account, the internet was not having it. Some fans understood the joke and chimed along.
Others took shots at the Los Angeles Lakers superstar for not being aware of the differences between net worth and actual cash balance. Check out examples of these varying comments below.

It’s probably all in trusts and LLCs and what not. So maybe technically his net worth is less but in reality it’s in the billions

After retiring, LeBron James will look to spread his wings into direct sports team ownership, as well as create a new international league. Once he prints his name on the ownership card, his net worth will likely soar beyond numbers no other athlete has ever managed to earn.
LeBron James indicates he is not done with the NBA
Before he started his preparations for season No. 23, LeBron James again spun the rumor mill when he talked about taking time to decide if he wanted to play in the NBA next season.

Almost everyone knew he was just stalling the media, as he would return for what could be his final time in the NBA. However, it seems The King does not have a definite answer yet.
Every time I pick up something new does not mean retirement… Retirement is coming. It’s coming. It’s just not here yet.
LeBron James said on Speedy Morman’s podcast
He was referring to when fans felt his recent addiction to golf indicated he was about to retire. James’ latest statement suggests he might not retire after the 2025-26 season.
"But retirement is coming. It is coming. It's just not here just yet."

Even though his wife would want that, it seems the all-time leading scorer wants to keep going, with the possibility that he could play alongside, or against, his 2nd son, Bryce James.
