The Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, hosted one of the grandest fight cards in recent times. Undefeated boxers Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev fought in the headliner bout for the undisputed status. However, the match results were subjected to intense scrutiny. Several individuals, including Turki Alalshikh and Eddie Hearn, believe that Dmitry Bivol was robbed of his victory.

The fight was announced almost a year ago. However, Dmitry Bivol seemed interested in facing his fellow countryman, Artur Beterbiev, for a long time. Since the announcement, fight fans and the boxing fraternity have hoped to see an exciting clash between the two. Although the fight did end up being an epic clash, the result seemed to disappoint many. As such, it even led some to raise questions about it.

In a thrilling showdown, Beterbiev emerged victorious with a majority decision. Interestingly, two out of the three judges scored the bout 115:113 and 116:112 in the 39-year-old’s favor. The wide margin of victory surprised many spectators. As such, it even led to speculation that influential figures may have impacted the outcome of the fight.

The most notable backlash came from rising boxing stars Ryan Garcia and Shakur Stevenson. They believed it was a close fight and that the majority decision shouldn’t have been handed over to Beterbiev. Ryan Garcia, in particular, clearly mentioned that the judges robbed Dmitry Bivol. Similar to Garcia and Stevenson, some other prominent individuals in the community also shared the same sentiment.

Turki Alalshikh’s reaction to Dmitry Bivol’s defeat

The boxing community is familiar with Saudi GEA chairman Turki Alalshikh due to his frequent involvement in bidding for the sport. In the last few months, Alalshikh has made a significant impact in the fighting community by organizing back-to-back grand events. The recent Bivol vs. Beterbiev fight card was also one of Alalshikh’s events.

The Riyadh Season played a significant role in raising the profile of this fight. It’s interesting to note that both Bivol and Beterbiev have a good relationship with the Saudi Delegate. Following their main event fight, Alalshikh shared his thoughts on the match outcome. As such, the boxing supremo even stated that he believes both fighters deserve a rematch.

However, Alalshikh also mentioned that he would be inclined towards a rematch only if the fighters agreed to it. Interestingly, similar to the Saudi delegate, another prominent individual, Bivol’s promoter, also shared his reaction to the matter.

Eddie Hearn is the CEO of Matchroom Boxing, one of the top promoters in the boxing community. Over the years, Hearn and his team have worked with various top fighters, including the former WBA and IBO light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. The promotion signed the Russian boxer back in 2018. Since then, they have enjoyed each other’s company.

With a journey full of victories, Bivol was set to face his Russian rival, Artur Beterbiev. Interestingly, the Matchroom CEO seemed quite confident about his fighter’s prowess and expected him to win. However, it didn’t happen. As a result, Hearn lashed out at the judges of the fight for the outcome and felt that Dmitry Bivol was robbed.

The judge only gave Bivol four rounds out of the twelve, which ultimately made a significant difference in the outcome of the fight. Is there a possibility for Dmitry Bivol vs. Artur Beterbiev 2?

Bivol and Beterbiev had excellent fight records when they clashed against each other. Beterbiev, in particular, has won all of his professional career bouts via knockouts and is known for his brute force. On the other hand, Bivol is known for his technical prowess in the sport. With that textbook boxing knowledge, the 33-year-old has defeated several notable fighters, including Canelo Alvarez.

However, Bivol could not replicate his success against Beterbiev, as the 39-year-old ended Bivol’s undefeated professional career record. Although Bivol has come to terms with his defeat, he is not ruling out the possibility of a rematch. As such, Bivol mentioned that it ultimately depends on the fight fans.
