Aaron Rodgers and his Pittsburgh Steelers were in the midst of a crucial run where a loss or two could derail their hopes of making it to the playoffs.

With the division rival Baltimore Ravens breathing down their neck, the franchise needed everything to go for them if they were to avoid questions rising again about head coach Mike Tomlin‘s ability to lead them, as well as the 42-year-old QB’s declining skills.

Rodgers performed well, as he kept it clean and efficient. Most of the scores came from running back Jaylen Warren, whose two scores ensured they stayed in the lead. The defensive unit also did its part, particularly the front seven, as the Lions’ usually good rushing attack was restricted to just 15 measly yards.

This forced them to target the secondary, and Jared Goff managed to connect on three scores, two of which were in the fourth quarter, as the home team staged a rally to try to win the game. To seal the deal, they required six more points, and initially, it seemed as if Amon-Ra St. Brown had indeed scored the winning touchdown as time expired.

However, there were flags on the field, and when the lead official first mentioned the touchdown, Detroit fans were sent into a frenzy. Then, the official revealed that the Lions’ star wideout had committed an offensive pass interference, which essentially nullified the play.

This brought that frenzy down to angry reactions from Lions fans. But Aaron Rodgers threw his arms up in the air, as he knew how important this win would be to their postseason hopes.

Aaron Rodgers connected with Kenneth Gainwell on unreal catch

Rodgers had just one touchdown to show for all the 266 yards he threw the ball in the air. That one touchdown also would not have happened had the Lions’ defenders not slacked off, believing the play was dead.

It happened in the dying seconds of the second quarter, when the four-time league MVP, facing intense pressure from the home team’s defensive front, was forced to toss the ball off his back foot.

Despite that desperate heave, Rodgers managed to get the ball to where Kenneth Gainwell was about to reach. As the running back cum part-time wide receiver tried to adjust and turn back to catch the ball, tangled with linebacker Alex Anzalone and went crashing to the ground.

In that split second, the Super Bowl champion stretched out his right hand, where the ball perfectly landed. As it bounced back up, Gainwell clutched it to his chest, got up, and started running towards the end zone.

Since Anzalone and safety Thomas Harper felt the play was dead, they eased off, only for the 5′ 9″ runner to waltz into the end zone. The play went viral, with some believing this Aaron Rodgers-Kenneth Gainwell connection could be an entry for the ‘Catch of the Year’ award.

DK Metcalf’s situation could become a spot of bother for Aaron Rodgers and Steelers

Kenneth Gainwell might have clocked the most yards on Aaron Rodgers’ stat sheet. But to consistently do that, the QB needs star wide receiver DK Metcalf to lead them into battle.

A couple of minutes before Gainwell’s catch, the 28-year-old was seen walking up to a Lions fan, grabbing his blue wig, and then, as he let go, trying to punch the fan in his face.

Luckily, the fan bobbed his head backwards, missing the 6′ 3″ star’s strong knuckle by millimeters. This could become a problem for the two-time Pro Bowler, as the league does not take kindly to such reactions.

Some claims are floating that the fan had just called Metcalf by his full government name, which apparently angered the receiver into retaliating in such a manner.

However, the Steelers star himself has revealed to those close to him that the fan had used a racial slur and insulted his mother. Now, the league might have to investigate what truly happened to decide on Aaron Rodgers’ favorite receiver.
