Rafael Nadal won’t be playing in the Laver Cup as he pulled out of it to give a chance to players who can deliver for the team. Had he played, he would have represented Team Europe, which will be captained by tennis legend Bjorn Borg. In a recent interview, Borg talked about his Laver Cup experience.
Borg stated that he enjoys dinner with the Team Europe players as he loves conversing with them. He praised Nadal for his personality and also talked about how the kids at the Rafa Nadal Academy love him and how he also enjoys spending time with them.
When Rafa and the others tell stories about everything that’s happening in the tennis world, it’s wonderful. They always ask me if I can tell stories from my time. The feeling with everyone is very nice. And Rafa is such a nice person with a big heart. He gives a lot to people.Bjorn Borg told Tennis Magazin
Although Nadal will skip the Laver Cup, he may play at the Davis Cup as Spain’s captain David Ferrer revealed in a recent interview that he had spoken to Nadal about participating in the tournament. If Nadal agrees to play, he may once again join Carlos Alcaraz for doubles.
Bjorn Borg thinks Rafael Nadal will retire after 2024
Rafael Nadal was not at all at his best in 2024 as injuries that troubled him throughout his career, made him skip almost the entire 2023, and when he finally returned earlier this year in Australia, another injury forced him to stay on the sidelines.

The 38-year-old finally made his comeback on the clay swing and fortunately for him, no injury had troubled him though he produced mediocre performances, including at the French Open, where he won a record 14 times. He lost in the first round at Roland Garros and, after that, he played at the Bastad Open and reached his first final of the season, but he ended up losing it.
Nadal next played singles and doubles at the Paris Olympics and the results were no different. Bjorn Borg thinks Nadal will bid farewell to tennis after 2024.
We all know it's his last year. The whole world is hoping that he stays injury-free at best and can play the tournaments that matter most to him.Bjorn Borg told Tennis Magazin
Before announcing the shocking withdrawal from the Laver Cup, Nadal also skipped the US Open. He also chose not to play at Wimbledon and instead chose to prepare for the Paris Olympics.
