After winning the 2024 World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers went into aggressive mode and strengthen their squad even further. One of their top signees in the offseason, Blake Snell recently dropped a huge bombshell on the ownership of his former team, the San Francisco Giants.
Snell won his second Cy Young Award in 2023. He would later pen down a 2-year $62 million deal with the Giants. After a slow start, Snell bounced back to this Cy Young Award winning form and finished the year strongly.
The Giants failed to make it to the postseason in 2024 after finishing with a 80-82 record. Snell would later opt-out of his deal and become a free agent once again.
Unlike last time where he had to wait for a while, Snell was quick to find a new team. The 2-time Cy Young Award winner joined the rivals of the Giants, the Dodgers on a massive 5-year $182 million deal. Though he opted-out of his contract, he was surprised by the lack of interest from the ownership group of the Giants.
The Giants didn’t even talk to me. It was surprising – I thought they really liked me. I thought they’d come after me right away. I really liked it there. I was happy there. But they never even said anything to me. I texted Bob (Melvin) and he didn’t reply, and Bob always replies to me, so I kind of had a feeling. But it was weird.

The 2024 season saw Snell finish with a 5-3 record in 20 games. In the 104.0 innings which he worked, he pitched with an ERA of 3.12 while having 145 strikeouts. He also throw his first career no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds in August.
Blake Snell struggles in Spring Training game against the Athletics ahead of new season
The 2025 Spring Training has seen the Los Angeles Dodgers lose a few games. While it’s only Spring Training, losing is not a good sign. On Sunday afternoon, the 2024 World Series winner dropped a Cactus League game 7-5 against the Athletics with Blake Snell struggling from the mound.

In the game on Sunday, the southpaw pitched 3.2 innings. During this, he gave up 5 hits and earned 4 runs. One of that hit was a solo home run in the second innings.
He though, did strike out 5 off the 16 hitters he went up against. His 67 pitches were also the most any Dodgers pitcher had thrown in the spring training so far.

Just like Tyler Glasnow, Snell will pitch in one of the exhibition games during the Japan Series before the season opener against the Chicago Cubs. He is also likely to start the first game of the home series of the team from March 27.
Dave Roberts said he wasn't allowed to say it outright, but intimated that Blake Snell will get the Dodger Stadium opener on March 27. Snell's next outing will be one of the Tokyo exhibitions.

With Yoshinobu Yamamoto set to start Game 1 of the Japan Series against the Cubs, there are chances that Dodgers’ other new signee – Roki Sasaki pitches in Game 2. This could see the Dodgers open their season in Japan with two Japanese pitchers.
