Two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell recently hit free agency after his 2024 stint with the San Francisco Giants. The 31-year-old already has some prominent team names lined up to sign him in the ongoing free agency.
Three top teams among them are – the New York Yankees, New York Mets, and Los Angeles Dodgers. These three teams seem to be competing not only for Snell but most for all top-tier players in the market this 2024.
According to a recent report by Jon Heyman of the NY Post, the pinstripes have “checked on” Blake Snell, Max Fried, and Corbin Burnes as potentials for the team. However, signing Snell while also keeping Juan Soto in the Bronx may be difficult financially.
Both demand high prices in the market, especially Soto, who is expected to cross Shohei Ohtani’s $700 million deal. However, adding Snell for the long run may also seem questionable for many as the pitcher finds it hard to make a comeback from his slump.

His 2024 season start was quite disastrous, but in the latter half, his performance rewrote his resume before hitting free agency. The Giants signed him with an opt-out contract for one-year following his long stay in the free agency until March 2024.
Will the Yankees be able to keep Juan Soto along with top 2025 prospects?
The New York Yankees seemed to have checked on most all available top players in the free agency. Some of them include – Blake Snell, Pete Alonso, and Sean Manaea, among others.
Juan Soto also received a qualifying offer from the team for $21.05 million for one year. However, it is highly likely that he may reject the offer, considering Soto is looking for a long-term commitment.
Since long before, Soto has been interested in checking on every potential suitor in the free agency before making a choice. If he remains with the Yankees, he’ll undoubtedly demand a higher paycheck following his stellar 2024 performance.

However, that’ll rule out the possibility of the team adding two more star players like Blake Snell and Pete Alonso to the mix. The players have until November last to decide on their qualifying offers.
If they choose to differ, the team in return will get a compensation pick from the 2025 draft. Nevertheless, losing Soto will hurt the team overall. He was one of the main cornerstones for the pinstripes to reach the World Series after 15 years in 2024. His decision will undoubtedly change the course of the Yankees’ next season run.
