The first major shock of the 2024 MLB postseason is here. On Tuesday, two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell agreed to join the Los Angeles Dodgers after spending the 2024 campaign with their division rivals, the San Francisco Giants.

As per reports from Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the former San Diego Padres star has agreed to join the 2024 World Series champion on a five-year, $182 million deal. This comes after he optioned out of his deal with the Giants.

In 2023, Snell hit free agency for the first time in his career. After long talks with several teams, the southpaw signed with the Giants on a two-year, $62 million deal just a few days before the Opening Day.

This saw him miss a huge part of the preseason, which had a huge impact on his start with the team. He had a 9.51 ERA over his first six starts and found himself on the injured list twice. After returning from his second IL stint, Snell found his Cy Young Award form again.

He went on to record an ERA of 1.23 and managed to pick out 114 strikeouts in his final 14 starts. Despite this, the Giants were unable to finish with a positive record and ended the season in fourth in the NL West, finishing 80-82 for the season.

This saw Snell optioned out of his remaining deal and hit free agency again. Unlike last time, Snell and his camp were able to pen down a deal quickly.

As per reports from Fabien Ardaya, Snell’s deal with the Dodgers will contain some deferred money. This could be a huge boost for the team as they find themselves locked in battle for Juan Soto as well.

Social media reacts to Blake Snell joining the LA Dodgers

The move of Blake Snell to the Los Angeles Dodgers comes as a major shock to many. While he was on the radar of several teams, there had been very few reports linking him to a move to the Dodgers. After appearing for the Padres and the Giants, the Dodgers will be the third NL West team Snell will play for.

Social media was left frenzy with this development. Before Mark Feinsand broke out the news, Snell took to his Instagram account and posted an image of him in a Los Angeles Dodgers uniform.

There were once again mixed reactions to this announcement. While the Dodger fans were happy and celebrated this move, others once again attacked them. One rival fan, seemingly upset by this move, wrote, “They can’t keep getting away with this.”

Check out that and some other top reaction regarding this shocking development below:

This move of Snell could have a major impact on the future of Jack Flaherty and Walker Buehler. The two pitchers became free agents after winning the World Series with the team.

There had been expectations that the team could re-sign both if they were unable to get any other pitcher. With Snell’s move, the chances of them returning to the Dodgers have gone down a little bit.
