Blake Snell and the Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a 6-1 defeat in Game 5 of the World Series. The 2-time Cy Young Award winner gave up 5 runs in this huge matchup. After the game, he expressed that he got “unlucky” in this game.
The southpaw had the worst possible start to the game. He conceded a home run to Davis Schneider on the very first pitch of the game. Schneider, who was batting as the No.1 hitter in place of George Springer, connected on a 97 mph fastball and sent the ball soaring into left field.
Just 2 pitches later, the Toronto Blue Jays were 2-0 up. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. continued his hot streak and crushed a 96 mph fastball into deep left. Within 3 pitches, Snell gave up 2 home runs.

While the Dodgers pulled one run back through a solo home run from Enrique Hernandez, the Blue Jays added 4 more runs. Snell ended his outing by throwing 6.2 innings, giving up 6 hits and 5 earned runs while allowing 4 walks.
Following the game, the former San Francisco Giants star expressed that he was “pretty unlucky” on Wednesday. He would then tell the reporters that he does not make “excuses.”
They didn’t really get to me. First pitch of the game, 97 (mph) fastball up and in, he hits it 98, and it goes out. Pretty unlucky. And then Vlad, that’s just a bad pitch, down and in fastball… And then Varsho gets a triple on a 78 (mph) exit velo, just unlucky. I’m not one to make excuses or anything close to that, but just pretty unlucky. There’s only so much you can do.
Blake Snell told the reporters
“They didn’t really get to me… Luck plays in baseball.”

Snell ended up throwing 116 pitches, the most he has in a game since the 2022 season. However, the Dodgers’ offense once again struggled and fell 3-2 down in the series with the loss.
The reigning World Series champions managed just 4 hits on Wednesday. Despite the lineup changes made by Dave Roberts, the team was unable to put up runs. The trio of Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman went 0-for-11 combined while striking out 6 times.
Blake Snell gets slammed by fans after his “unlucky” comments
The Los Angeles Dodgers got blown away 6-1 in Game 5 by the Toronto Blue Jays. Blake Snell was the losing pitcher after he was unable to contain the visitors’ offense. Following the loss, the 32-year-old made some bold comments that left the fans on social media enraged.

Users on X were not impressed by Snell claiming that he was “unlucky” in this game. Many of them slammed him and called him out. Meanwhile, one user wrote, “acting like a 10 year old” while expressing their feelings.

Which was the unlucky part, the 2 HRs, the 3 WP's or the 4 walks?

Luck? A straight fastball gets deposited in the bleachers is skill. Dude should own it.

“Vladdy is a good hitter. The rest of them….” What a nasty thing to say about the team that finished FIRST in the league in hits. The repeated use of the Blue Jays simply being lucky rather than crediting them. No wonder your fanbase is full of casuals, it starts with you guys. https://t.co/mG3DSauz4H

I guess I was always indifferent towards Blake Snell, but after watching this it’s clear that he’s one of the biggest morons in professional sports. Poor guy just keeps getting unlucky. https://t.co/lTEiJeAB5w

Hitting back-to-back home runs in the first inning means they “didn’t really get to me”? I’m a Blake Snell fan, but he’s gotta go to the Hall of Very Sore Losers for this one. https://t.co/zQmnuIgE6O

Blake Snell and Dodgers hoping to enforce first World Series Game 7 in 6 years
Blake Snell and his team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, find themselves on the brink of defeat. They will head into the game on Friday hoping to enforce the first Game 7 in the World Series in 6 years.

The last two seasons have seen teams being crowned champions after Game 5. The Dodgers last year took down the Yankees in Game 5 by coming back from 5-0 down in the game. In 2023, the Texas Rangers won their first World Series by beating the Arizona Diamondbacks in 5 games and winning the series 4-1.
Before that, the three World Series (2020, 2021, and 2022) all ended after six games. The Dodgers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in 2020, the Atlanta Braves took down the Houston Astros in 2021, before the Astros beat the Philadelphia Phillies in 2022.
The last World Series to reach Game 7 was in 2019. The Washington Nationals were 3-2 down, just like the Dodgers are right now, after 5 games. They came back to win Games 6 and 7 on the road and emerged as the champions against the Astros.
The Dodgers will be hoping for a similar result. Game 6 will see Yoshinobu Yamamoto take on Kevin Gausman from the mound. The Blue Jays, meanwhile, would be hoping to end a 32-year drought and complete the job on Friday at Rogers Centre.
