The Toronto Blue Jays got swept by the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. Their 3-game series loss sparked wild reactions among fans on social media, as many celebrated the feat of the American League Central team.
The Blue Jays, who are the defending American League Champions, have struggled so far in the 2026 season. After sweeping the Athletics to start the season, they lost 2 out of 3 against the Colorado Rockies and ended up dropping that series.
On Friday, the White Sox would walk off the Toronto-based side 5-4 after 10 innings. This was followed by a 6-3 win on Saturday, meaning that the Southsiders had a chance to do something on Sunday that they had not done in over 30 years.
A 3-0 shutout win saw them win the series and complete the sweep of the Blue Jays. A triple from Miguel Vargas in the first inning, a double from Lenyn Sosa in the third inning and a single from Austin Hays in the fourth inning were followed by six strong innings from starting pitcher Davis Martin.
The 29-year-old gave up just 4 hits and picked up 6 strikeouts. Relief pitchers Bryan Hudson, Jordan Leasure and Chris Murphy combined to give up just 2 hits in 3 innings and preserved the lead.

This marked the first time since September 1995 that the White Sox had swept the Blue Jays in a 3-game series at home. After going 1-5 on the road to start the season, the AL Central side kicked off its homestand with a 3-0 record. The last time they started 3-0 in Chicago was in the 2004 season.

Fans troll Blue Jays for getting swept against the White Sox
The Toronto Blue Jays are having some trouble this year. After a solid start to the campaign, they have won just 1 of their next 6 games. Following the 3-game sweep at the hands of the Chicago White Sox, fans would brutally troll them.

Users on X made fun of the Blue Jays for losing against the White Sox. One user dropped a Pope Leo XIV reference and wrote, “Can’t beat the Pope’s team on Easter“, while reacting to this. For the unversed, the Pope is a huge fan of the White Sox.
Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

The Blue Jays’ offense was a major miss in this series. The AL East team had a .188 batting average with just 5 extra base hits over the weekend.
Blue Jays face tough competition in World Series rematch with Dodgers after sweep at hands of White Sox
The Toronto Blue Jays dropped all 3 games against the Chicago White Sox over the weekend. Things do not get easier for the Canadian side as they face tough competition in a World Series rematch against the Los Angeles Dodgers next.

Last November, the Blue Jays were 2 outs away from a first World Series championship since going back-to-back in 1992 and 1993. A 9th inning home run from Miguel Rojas tied the game at 4-4 at Rogers Centre.
A 11th inning home run from Will Smith and a double play in the bottom of the frame saw the Dodgers emerge as 5-4 winners and repeat as champions. It was the ultimate heartbreak for the Blue Jays as they were 3-0 in Game 7 and were leading the series 3-2 after 5 games.
The defending champions have started the 2026 season in strong fashion. After a series loss against the Cleveland Guardians, they swept the Washington Nationals 3-0, outscoring their division rivals 31-17 in the 3-game series.
They are 7-2 for the season and have the joint-best record in the league with the Milwaukee Brewers and the New York Yankees. As for the Blue Jays, they are 4-5, 3 games behind the Bronx Bombers in the division standings.
