The Toronto Blue Jays blew away the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. The American League East leaders set an MLB record while completing a dominating 3-game series sweep over the National League side.
The Blue Jays and the Rockies have had contrasting forms this season. While the Canadian side has been in hot form and have taken control of their division, the Rockies are on pace to establish an unwanted losing record.
In the series opener on Monday, the Blue Jays hammered the Rockies 15-1. In this win, the Blue Jays registered 25 hits. Meanwhile, their opponents managed to get 8 hits.
The Rockies did improve a bit offensively on Tuesday, as they got 9 hits and 4 runs, but they still ended up conceding 10 runs. Their opponents had scored 25 runs in the 2 games and headed into the game on Wednesday looking to continue their dominance.
The hits just kept on coming on Wednesday at Coors Field. The AL side scored 10 runs or more for the third game running and entered the top of the 9th inning with a 12-1 lead.
Pitcher Austin Nola ended up conceding 8 runs in the 9th inning and gave up 2 home runs. The Rockies managed just 3 hits and suffered a crushing 20-1 defeat.
The Blue Jays wrapped up the series with 45 runs, the most in their club history. They also collected 63 hits, the most in any 3 games series in MLB since the modern era began in 1901.

These 63 hits are also the most any team has hit in a series since the New York Giants had 66 hits in 1933. The Giants had 66 hits in a 5-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Meanwhile, the 45 runs scored by the Blue Jays are also the most scored by a Major League team in a three-game series since 2019, when the Chicago Cubs scored 47 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Their 39-run differential (45-6) was the 6th highest in a series of three games or fewer in MLB history.
Rockies’ interim manager Warren Schaeffer tips hat to Blue Jays following crushing loss
The Colorado Rockies were smashed by the Toronto Blue Jays in this 3-game series. After a massive series defeat, Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer tipped his hat to their opponents and praised them for their performances.

While speaking to the reporters after the 20-1 loss, Schaeffer expressed that his team needed to make better pitches in order to not get blown in such fashion.
It’s a really good team that puts the ball in play a ton. That’s what they do. It’s why they’re on top of the American League. So you’ve got to tip your hat to them, and we’ve got to make better pitches.

The Rockies have been the worst team in the league this year. The team started the season with a poor 7-33 record. This eventually led to the team letting go of long-time manager Bud Black and naming Schaeffer as the interim manager for the remainder of the season.
While the Rockies have won some games since then, they are still on pace for the worst record in MLB history. The 20-1 loss on Wednesday was their 4th successive loss and their 84th of the season. In contrast, they have only won 30 games.
Last year, the Chicago White Sox created unwanted MLB history as they finished with more than 120 losses (41-121 record). The Rockies need to win 12 more games from their remaining 48 games to avoid having the worst record in MLB history.
