Bo Bichette did not have the best of starts to his New York Mets career. After striking out in the 7th inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, the infielder got booed from the home crowd at Citi Field in New York.
Bichette was one of the biggest signings for the Mets in the offseason. The National League East side had a season to forget in 2025 as they missed out on the playoffs on the final day of the season.
In the offseason, they would lose some of their big stars in Pete Alonso, Edwin Diaz, Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil. They were then actively involved in the race to sign Kyle Tucker.
The former Houston Astros star would pick the Los Angeles Dodgers and join them on a 4-year, $240 million deal. Hours after missing out on him, the Mets landed Bichette on a 3-year, $126 million deal.

After losing the Kyle Tucker sweepstakes, the Mets pivot quickly and get one of the best players left on the market. @WillSammon was first on the deal.
With Alonso no longer in the lineup, several eyes were on how Bichette would play. While he did drive in a run through a sacrifice fly, he went 0-for-4 in his debut game.
In the second game, he went 1-for-5 with a single. On Sunday, he struggled again. He would go 0-for-5 while striking out 3 times. After he went down swinging in the 7th inning, the fans would rain down boos at him.

Bichette had a fantastic season with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2025. He hit 18 home runs and had 94 RBIs in 139 regular-season games while batting with a .311/.357/.483 slash line. He would suffer a knee injury and miss a few games before returning to the lineup in the World Series against the Dodgers.
In Game 7, he would hit a 3-run home run against Shohei Ohtani to give the Canadian side a 3-0 lead. However, they were unable to maintain the lead as the Dodgers fought back and won 5-4 in extra innings to repeat as champions.
Bo Bichette admits to deserving boos following poor start to Mets tenure
After the season he had last year, there had been heavy expectations on the shoulders of Bo Bichette this year. So far, he has struggled with his form, going 1-for-14 in 3 games for the New York Mets. Following the game on Sunday, the player admitted he deserved the boos.

While speaking with the reporters, the 28-year-old admitted that his at-bats were “terrible.” He even dropped a savage reply to the boos and claimed it took longer than he expected.
If anything, I thought it took too long. I get it. I thought my at-bats were terrible too.

The Mets, who started the season well, would end up dropping the game on Sunday. They would suffer a 4-3 defeat in extra innings. With the game leveled at 2-2 after 9 innings, extra innings was required.
The Pirates would score two runs through Ryan O’Hearn and Henry Davis. While Juan Soto was able to drive in Francisco Alvarez through a double, Francisco Lindor was judged to be tagged out at home plate. This saw them drop the game after 10 innings and fail to get the sweep.
