While some may find it hard to believe, Nickal claims that UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria will defend his title at UFC 314.
Nickal revealed the potential next opponent for UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria on Monday. Although Topuria has already defeated several formidable fighters in the division, many in the UFC community see him as a tough challenge.
This has led to ongoing discussions about who Topuria might face next. During a conversation about a possible matchup between Topuria and Islam Makhachev, Nickal shared the aforementioned insider information.
Absolutely 100%, that’s the matchup, Ilia up at 55 (155lbs) but they just announced Ilia and Volk, yeah, April, UFC 314, I think… It’s official, I know for a fact, I don’t know that it was announced for a fact but I know it’s happening for a fact… I’m announcing it.

According to Nickal, a rematch between Alexander Volkanovski and the UFC featherweight champion is on the horizon. Interestingly, Topuria has taken over the 145 lbs division following Volkanovski. In their previous encounter at UFC 298, the Spaniard delivered a decisive knockout victory over the former champion. Since then, Topuria has continued to elevate his status within the promotion.

The Spaniard then went on to defeat Max Holloway, another former champion in the UFC featherweight division. Following that victory, Topuria seemingly expressed his intention to compete for the UFC lightweight title. However, the reigning featherweight champion stated that he wasn’t particularly interested in leaving his division. As a result, Nickal is confident that their matchup will be booked for UFC 314 in Miami.
Alexander Volkanovski’s teammate drops buzz about his and Ilia Topuria’s rematch
Alexander Volkanovski is widely regarded as one of the most dominant champions in UFC featherweight history. Aside from his losses to Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria, Volkanovski has defeated every opponent he has faced. These defeats, particularly the one against Topuria, may have left a significant mark on the Australian fighter.
In response, Volkanovski has consistently expressed his desire for a rematch against the Spaniard. In the meantime, the Australian fighter appeared to dedicate significant time to his friends and teammates as he prepared for his comeback in the division. Notably, Dan Hooker, a UFC lightweight fighter and teammate of Volkanovski, shared some exciting news about the actual date for the rematch between Topuria and Volk.
They wanted to put Volk and Ilia on the (UFC 313) card as well, but Ilia said he needs six months to make weight or something. I’m like, ‘Bro, what?

According to Hooker, Volkanovski and Topuria were set to compete at UFC 313 in March. However, the announcement was delayed because the Spaniard raised concerns regarding his weight cut. Consequently, their matchup has been rescheduled for a month later at UFC 314, based on recent reports. However, this has not yet been confirmed by the UFC.
