(Video) Bo Nix struggles with accuracy as he misses two ‘wide open’ receivers on critical drive vs. Saints

Bo Nix managed to overshoot one Broncos player but at the same time, his pass was short for another of his teammates during the Saints game.

Bo Nix’s biggest USP during the NFL Draft was his arm strength and the accuracy of his passes. Nix fit Sean Payton’s style of pass-heavy, quick-thinking quarterback mold, but the 24-year-old rookie has struggled to replicate that same composure occasionally for the Broncos.

It was on display during Thursday night’s matchup at Caesar’s Super Dome against the New Orleans Saints. On the first drive of the game—first and ten—Nix made a pass that left fans stunned.

The Broncos’ offensive line kept the Saints’ pressure away, and Nix had all the time he required to find a teammate. He threw the pass, which landed right between two Denver players.

Tight end Thomas Yassmin #86 stretched his 1.94-meter frame, but the ball sailed over his head and landed just in front of rookie receiver Troy Franklin, who only had five catches on the night.

Fortunately, for Nix and Payton, there wasn’t any Saints defender lurking nearby to intercept the pass.

The next one almost dealt a big blow. Nix once again, without any pass pressure, threw the ball straight to Saints’ Tyrann Mathieu. However, the ball bounced off the veteran safety’s chest, making it an incomplete pass.

Nix ended the game with 16 from 26 (61% completion rate) for 164 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero picks. This was his fourth-fewest percentage game. According to the 33rd team, Bo Nix may be first in attempting a 10-yard pass with 38 but is 26th in completion with 31.6%.

Bo Nix sets Denver Broncos rookie record

The Broncos defeated the Saints 33-10 with Javonte Williams scoring two touchdowns. Williams also ran 14 times for 88 yards. Nix was their second-best rusher with 10 carries for 75 yards.

It was Nix’s fourth win as the Broncos quarterback, which equaled 2x Super Bowl winner John Elway’s rookie season win record. However, the Oregon graduate did way quicker than Elway, who won four in his tenth attempt.

It means a lot. We are talking about one of the greats to ever do it at our organization. It means a lot when you are in a great company.

Bo Nix said

Yet at the same time, he also acknowledged there are still 10 more games to play in the season.

We are not finished. There’s a lot in front of us. So definitely won’t want to stop there. We will continue to get better as a team. I am going to continue to grow and learn and hopefully we continue to have wins like this.

Bo Nix added

The Broncos are back at Empower Field in Mile How next week. They will play against the struggling Carolina Panthers.
