The Paris Olympics Swimming heats took place this Sunday, featuring the women’s 100m breaststroke as one of its premier events. The event has now gone viral on social media. However, this is not because of the performance of a particular athlete, but because of a different reason altogether.
During the event, American swimmer Emma Weber lost her cap in the pool of La Defense Arena before the finals of the women’s 100m breaststroke prelims. The cameras even showed the cap floating in the water. During this shot, a man made his way to the pool and stripped down into bright-colored, flowery Speedos.
He was a member of staff at the Paris Olympics and dived into the water to clear the pool for the next event. He retrieved the cap and hopped out of the water. Much to his surprise, the audience, consisting of more than 15,000 members, started cheering and hooting for him and his efforts. A member of the NBC broadcast booth even dubbed him as ‘Bob the Cap Catcher.’
‘Bob’ even received several catcalls from the audience, and many proclaimed this to be the moment of the 2024 Paris Olympics so far. From Simone Biles making her big return to a child r*pist getting booed on the court, and now with a staff member making headlines, it has been quite an eventful Sunday for the Paris Olympics.
Australian Women’s swimming team breaks Olympic record to win 4x100m freestyle relay gold in Paris Olympics
The Australian swimming team has showcased that they are not in Paris to mess around. One of the country’s star swimmers, Ariarne Titmus established her dominance in the 400m freestyle category with her second consecutive win at the Olympics. The country has now bagged another gold to their name after a brilliant team effort.
Sunday’s third final in the pool featured the women’s 4×100 freestyle relay race, featuring eight qualified teams. Anna Hopkin secured an early lead for Great Britain. However, she dropped back a little bit and the Aussies were already in the lead after the first 100 metres.
They had expanded their lead to a body length during the halfway mark, and it was nearly impossible to catch up to them from thereon. They finished the event not only with a gold medal but also while setting up an Olympic Record at 3:28.92. Team United States and Team China followed them in second and third place respectively.
