Things seem to be going from bad to worse for former NBA star Dwight Howard. Last week, he had officially filed for divorce from his wife, Amber Howard. Amber made a series of explosive accusations against the former Defensive Player of the Year during a live stream viewed by millions. It spread across social media and attracted a couple of million viewers.

Amber accused Dwight of substance abuse and claimed that Child Protective Services (CPS) had taken away his daughter from their household. She further showed a small bag and claimed it was cocaine.

To add fuel to an already difficult situation, their messy home life is now on public display. New police body cam footage showed the two trading jabs during a tense encounter at their Georgia mansion. Dwight is heard saying to the cops:

What is happening is, they [Howard’s ex and Amber] have teamed up. They’re upset about the money. So, they want to destroy my kids and reputation.

The couple got married in January last year. Unfortunately, it appears that it has already run its course. There is no turning back right now, and no reconciliation looks highly unlikely, especially after the controversial video Amber posted.

Dwight Howard has five children, but none with Amber. The former NBA champion demanded exclusive use of his Georgia mansion in his divorce papers. While Dwight has stayed away from making comments on the situation, Amber has been vocal and is trying to get the public to side with her.

This is not the first time Dwight has been caught up in a mess in his personal life. He has been involved in several public and legal issues with Royce Reed, the mother of his oldest son, Braylon.

As the legal battle between the two continues, it has only gotten messier. While Amber accused Dwight of drug abuse, he called the County Police on her, alleging that she stole some items from him, including a wedding ring. All items put together summed up to $20,000.

According to police body camera footage obtained by PEOPLE, Dwight said to the police:

I went to get my son, and when I came back out to my car, all my stuff was gone.

While Dwight filed for divorce earlier this month, Amber had filed for divorce too last summer before the two reconciled. However, it looks like their divorce proceedings are about to get a lot uglier, with both sides wanting to battle it out in court.

Dwight Howard’s ex-girlfriend seeks custody of their daughter

After the shocking allegations made by Amber, Dwight’s ex-girlfriend, Tiffany Render, rushed to court to ask the judge for temporary custody of their teenage daughter. The two share a daughter, Layla, who is now 15 years old.

Back in 2024, the two were involved in a custody battle. Dwight won the case and was granted primary custody of Layla. Render has now claimed that their daughter is emotionally distressed about going back to Dwight’s home. Hence, she has requested an emergency hearing.

However, sources close to Dwight believe that his ex-girlfriend and estranged wife are working together and trying to spread negativity about the former NBA star.

It has been three years since the big man last played in the NBA. He officially announced his retirement a few days ago, but it looks like the NBA world will be hearing a lot more from Dwight in the coming months as his personal life heats up.
