The college football playoffs are set to commence soon, intensifying discussions around the Heisman Trophy. While the two-way star Travis Hunter has emerged as the favorite to win the trophy and his head coach Deion Sanders share the same beliefs, head coach Spencer Danielson argued that Ashton Jeanty deserves it even more, and he certainly was not subtle in saying it.
After the blowout 52-0 victory over Oklahoma State, Coach Prime believes Hunter has further enhanced his odds of winning the Heisman Trophy with no one even close to his achievements. However, Danielson bluntly claimed that the Heisman Trophy race is not over yet.
Danielson’s faith in the Boise State running back does hold value after all Jeanty recorded 2,288 yards and 28 touchdowns on 312 rushing attempts in the 2024 college football regular season. On top of that, he led the team to an 11-1 season record and placed top in Mountain West Standings.
Travis Hunter solidifying Heisman Trophy lead with Buffs’ blowout victory
Even though the Buffs couldn’t qualify for the playoffs, head coach Sanders was happy seeing his players excel on the field in their blowout victory. After Hunter recorded 10 receptions for 116 yards and three touchdowns, Sanders felt he “clinched” the prestigious Heisman Trophy award already.
According to the latest updates by Sports Illustrated, Hunter is the favorite to win the honor with -1000 odds, followed by Jeanty with +2000 odds and Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel with +50000 odds. If the Colorado wide receiver won the honor, he would become the first defensive player since 1997 to win the honor.
After his remarkable season in which he recorded 100 or more receiving yards in 7 out of 11 games, Hunter is also projected to be the first overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.
