Following the third consecutive loss, the Chicago Bears took the bold step of firing offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. While the official reason for this decision hasn’t been revealed, many believed it was to ensure better development of the first-round pick, Caleb Williams

Contrary to fans’ opinion on the matter, sports analyst James Jones doesn’t seem to believe Waldron was the main problem in Chicago. While blaming the rookie quarterback for getting the offensive coordinator Waldron fired, Jones argued that the Bears should have made changes in the quarterback room instead of the coaching staff.

I wish we could fire everybody… because that’s where the Chicago Bears are at right now. Nobody’s playing well and it starts with the quarterback, not the offensive coordinator. Caleb Williams is not playing at a high level right now and you can talk about offensive coordinator and you can talk about certain plays he ain’t dialing up and all that. But he is dialing up some plays too that the quarterback does not pull the trigger on.

Using the example of the New York Jets, who fired a coaching staff member after considering him as the main problem with the team’s struggle. Yet, nothing happened and their season continues deteriorating. On the other hand, the Carolina Panthers made a quarterback replacement, by bringing in Andy Dalton as the starter, which led to a slight improvement in their season with a two-game winning streak.

Caleb Williams expresses frustration over inaccuracy

Waldron’s dismissal does not guarantee success in the Windy City, as fans have also contemplated head coach Matt Eberflus’ future. There have been speculations that he has lost his team with many questioning his decision-making for the past three weeks. Meanwhile, the rookie quarterback has acknowledged his accuracy issue which has also affected his chemistry with teammates.

Not being accurate, not being on time with things is frustrating because it’s kind of been my thing. Something I’ve been at least pretty solid at. And right now, I’m not as solid as I’ve been, not as solid as I pride myself on.

Head coach Eberflus believes Williams’ performance will improve by working on his progressions, stating that he needs to be cleaner with that. The team is aiming for better development of the rookie quarterback since they plan to make him the franchise quarterback in the long run.
