After winning five of the first six games of the 2024-25 season, it seemed the New York Rangers would once again be top contenders. Following this start, the reigning President’s trophy holders find themselves in a slump at the moment which has led to some harsh words from Boomer Esiason.
The Rangers ended up losing their fourth consecutive game on Wednesday. The Carolina Hurricanes ran out as 4-3 winners after coming back from 3-2 in the third period. Esiason, a former NFL MVP and a Rangers fan, was unpleased with the team’s effort and blasted them on social media.
Taking to his X account, the ex-Cincinnati Bengals quarterback called out various players. Instead of naming them, he called out the jersey numbers of the several players and pointed out their weaknesses.
10,16,13 MIA taken out of the game…79,23,6 skilled but way too soft.

93 lost at the moment. 31 average. Can’t beat a 3rd string goalie. Way too soft and too many lulls in the game and lost board battles. Effort matters. Coach? Eh…#realreal #NYR
This was not the first time this week that he had attacked the team. He would draw comparisons with another New York team – the New York Giants.
The Giants are currently 2-10 for the 2024-25 NFL season. Esiason claimed that the Rangers are soft and are getting “Giant-esque.”
Boomer sounded off on the Rangers after another loss amid rumors about shaking up the core.

This run of form has led to GM Chris Drury making a big announcement. He has sent out a trade memo to every other team in the league with the name of captain Jacob Trouba on top of it.
Rangers captain Jacob Trouba comments on team’s four-game losing skid
After the start the New York Rangers had, very few would have predicted them to fall in such a slump. The Rangers were on a three-game winning run before embarking on this four-game losing skid. Following this defeat, Captain Jacob Trouba commented on this.
The 30-year-old defenseman claimed that the team was going through a ‘little bit of adversity‘ at the moment.
#NYR captain Jacob Trouba: “We’re going through a little bit of adversity as a group. Everybody knows it’s probably a better effort for us, but there’s not really any moral victories at this level. We’ve got to keep grinding, keep putting the work in and turn this thing around as…

Recently, Trouba broke his silence regarding the trade memo shared by GM Chris Drury. The American star said he was happy to be part of the team and was focused on playing hockey. He informed that he had not spoken to Drury since the memo was released.
The Rangers will now take on the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night. A loss in this game would further dampen their season record and mount more pressure on the team’s management.
