Yulia Putintseva drew attention to herself for the wrong reasons following her behavior toward a ball girl during her third-round match against Jasmine Paolini at the US Open. The Kazakhstani ace has recently been slammed by tennis legend Boris Becker for her ‘terrible behavior.’
The 29-year-old was struggling with her game from the start of the match against Paolini. She was yet to drop a set before she met the Italian, having beaten Linda Noskova and Wang Xinyu in the opening rounds. After losing a point, she looked disinterested and lacked energy while dealing with the ball kids.
In one particular incident, a ball girl threw balls to her before her serve, but instead of Kazakhstan catching them, she stood still, only nodding to the girl to keep throwing. She then picked up the ball and was ready to serve. She later got into an argument with the chair umpire for her behavior.
She received backlash for her behavior from fans online; notable among them was tennis legend, Boris Becker. The German labeled her behavior terrible.

The 29-year-old received backlash from fans on social media after a viral clip of her watching as the ball girl kept throwing balls at her before later picking one with her racket.
The World No.32 penned down an apology on her Instagram story, stating that she was feeling frustrated at that particular moment due to her inability to convert a point she had during her game against Paolini.
I want to apologize to the ball girl for the way I was, when she was giving me balls. Honestly speaking it was not about her. I was really pissed at myself by not winning the game from the break point. Got empty with my emotions and deep in my thoughts, that I was not even focusing on what's going on and who gives me the ball… all the ball kids were doing amazing as always at the Open.Yulia Putintseva wrote on Instagram
