Boris Becker slams ‘click bait’ media for misinterpreting his words on Novak Djokovic’s injury at the Australian Open
Before the Australian Open semifinal, Boris Becker had warned Alexander Zverev to stick to his tennis over whatever Novak Djokovic does.

Novak Djokovic was not able to play to his full potential in the first set against Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open due to a niggle on his left leg. But after receiving treatment, he came back and won the match.
Many thought the injury was not serious, with some even claiming that the Serb was just faking it to confuse the 21-year-old Spaniard. But in the end, when the 37-year-old, who was chasing his historic 25th Grand Slam title, retired after the first set against Alexander Zverev in the semifinal, his critics finally realized that he was not playing tricks.
Djokovic’s former coach Boris Becker, before the semifinal, while discussing the injury on Eurosport, had said that his former protege was ‘injured against Alcaraz but afterward he moved very well’.
He had advised Zverev to stick to his tennis and ‘mustn’t let himself be put off his game, whatever his opponent does.’ This was perceived by the media that the German coach was expressing doubt over the legitimacy of the 24-time Grand Slam champion’s injury.

Being in Novak Djokovic’s team was a learning curve for Andy Murray
The announcement of whether Novak Djokovic will be extending his partnership with coach Andy Murray is expected to come in the near future. Following the Australian Open exit, when Djokovic was asked about the future with Murray, he said he would have a chat with the Scot after things ‘cool off’ a bit.
Murray too responded the same when asked about it while praising Djokovic’s team and his performances at the Melbourne Slam.
Murray retired at the 2024 Paris Olympics and then joined Djokovic’s team in November. He played his last ATP singles match of his career at the 2024 Queen’s Club Championships.
