The GOAT debate in basketball has always been a hot topic among fans and NBA stars. However, the debate has always revolved around two names: Michael Jordan and LeBron James. Many people from the ’90s consider Jordan as the GOAT, while recent NBA fans picked James as their GOAT. Recently, another NBA star has decided to pick the GOAT in the sport of basketball.

Derrick White, star of the Boston Celtics, recently chose LeBron James over Michael Jordan as the greatest of all time. Fans posted a video on social media, where White was at a golf course and fans asked him if James was his GOAT. White replied with a series of nods, leading the fans to also proclaim James as the GOAT by stating, “LeGOAT, my king.”

Derrick White won his first NBA Championship with the Boston Celtics. He then received an invitation to represent Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics, stepping in for Kawhi Leonard. The USA team had a strong lineup, and White contributed as a role player known for his exceptional on-ball defense. White played alongside James and even went on to win his first gold medal in the Olympics.

James’ success and longevity are one of the main arguments for him in the GOAT debate. He has played with two generations, many of whom grew up watching Bron rather than MJ. This could be why White picked James as the GOAT. In his last season, James averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists. He remains one of the top stars in the league and is carrying the Los Angeles Lakers on his shoulders.

Shawn Kemp picks Michael Jordan as the GOAT of basketball

Throughout the years, fans have seen many NBA superstars, legends and analysts give their take on the GOAT debate between Michael Jordan and LeBron James. Former Seattle Sonics star Shawn Kemp gave his take on the GOAT debate. Kemp made a guest appearance on ‘All The Smoke’ podcast where Matt Barnes asked Kemp about his thoughts on who the GOAT of basketball is.

Kemp, sidestepping LeBron James, chose Michael Jordan as his GOAT. He emphasized that no player in basketball has even come close to reaching the level of excellence achieved by Jordan. According to Kemp, James should be more aptly compared to Magic Johnson rather than Jordan.

I think LeBron is right up there. I don’t think he’s the best and I don’t think he has to be the best. And I don’t think LeBron James should be compared with Michael Jordan either. I think LeBron should be compared with Magic Johnson. Whoever started that [expletive] up got it totally wrong. LeBron is not no Michael Jordan, Kobe [Bryant] is more Michael Jordan.

Kemp even felt that Kobe Bryant was the closest star to Jordan. Jordan had destroyed Kemp and his Seattle Supersonics in the 1996 NBA finals. In that same season, the Jordan-led Bulls had set a record at that time for the most wins in a season by going 72-10.
