The ongoing 4 Nations Face-Off produced a major talking point on Saturday when Canadian fans at the Bell Centre in Montreal heavily booed the US National Anthem. On Monday night, the Boston crowd at the TD Garden seemingly returned that favor as Canada took on Finland.
The tensions between the USA and Canada have increased in the past few days. US President Donald Trump first boldly claimed that Canada should be the “51st state” of the United States. A few days later, new tariffs were implemented on goods.
The Saturday fixture between the United States and Canada was their first official meeting in over 9 years. As a result of this, things got more heated up.
On Monday, the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament made its way onto American soil. As Canada lined up for their game against Finland, there were many eager to see what the fans at the TD Garden would do following the reception two days ago.
As “O Canada” started, there was some mixed reaction from the crowd. While there was some light booing, there were some cheers as well. Compared to what happened in Montreal to the US Anthem, the response was a bit light-hearted from the crowd.

After the game on Saturday, the hockey world is eager for a rematch between USA and Canada. The upcoming Thursday will see them lock horns again in the 4 Nations Face-Off Championship. The TD Garden serves as the home arena of the Bruins. Marchand, the Canadian forward has spent his entire NHL career with them and currently leads the team as their captain.
On Thursday, he will once again take to the ice field as an opposition player. There are chances that he could get booed inside the very own building where he is considered a legend.
Speaking on that matter, the veteran forward brushed off the concerns regarding it. He simply claimed that he has been booed at many places.
No, I haven’t thought about it. At the end of the day, I’ve been booed everywhere. So I’m not too worried about it.

Canada has a good record in international tournaments in the last 15 years. They have achieved success in 2010, 2014, 2015, and 2016 at the Winter Games, IIHF Championship, and the World Cup of Hockey, respectively. They will now be hoping to add the 4 Nations Face-Off trophy to their cabinet and exact revenge on their rivals.
