This week on SmackDown, John Cena turned up to Dayton just 24 hours before his Undisputed WWE title defense against Randy Orton. As former Top Rank Boxing announcer Mark Nash was doing the introductions for the Last Real Champion, someone sitting in the front row hurled an empty beer bottle at Cena. It didn’t go unnoticed by the wrestler-turned-actor.

While the 48-year-old addressed it in a line or two during his promo, Cena wasn’t pedantic. He instead told the WWE Universe in Ohio that their childhood would die at Backlash. Labeling himself and Orton as two generation-defining WWE Superstars, the fans will have to choose between them one last time on Sunday. They have 31 world title reigns split between them.

After explaining the magnitude of their clash, Cena started dumping on The Viper by exposing how big of a liar he is. The Cenation Leader said that the St. Louis native has never hustled in life, and he segued into the pro wrestling industry because of his forefathers. The Ricky Stanicky actor also berated Orton’s legendary father by saying that all he’s ever done is knock up The Viper’s mother.

Cena mocked those who romanticize Orton’s loyalty to WWE when in reality it’s called cashing a check. The Franchise Player also trolled the 45-year-old for always begging for the respect of the fans. At one point, The Prototype went on to assert that The Viper’s Backlash performance would be just like his 2006 drug test—a failure. The segment ended when Orton planted Cena with an RKO. It happened after the champ had foiled a stunt double and planted him with an Attitude Adjustment.

What to expect from John Cena vs. Randy Orton at Backlash?

Now that Randy Orton has had the last laugh on John Cena every time they’ve stood across from each other in the last three weeks, it has to mean something. If one looks at the logical follow-up to it, The Viper might be in jeopardy of losing in front of his own people at Backlash.

Orton is aware of St. Louis potentially turning its back on him and rooting for Cena instead. Or who knows if The Last Real Champion has someone named Travis Scott up his sleeve once again? The rapper came to the aid of the Massachusetts-born wrestler at The Grandest Stage of Them All in Las Vegas.

Scott’s interference allowed Cena to beat Cody Rhodes in one of the most criticized WrestleMania main events in recent years. Even if Scott tries to ruin things for Orton, a certain American Nightmare might be there for the backup. Rhodes is expected at Backlash in some capacity.

CM Punk still interested in facing John Cena after Elimination Chamber magic

As the John Cena farewell tour rolls on, The Cenation Leader is running out of time with each passing day. There are certain opponents whom the fans want to see mix it up with Cena before he calls it a day on his illustrious career. One of them is CM Punk.

In fact, The Best in the World did get his hands on The Franchise Player inside this year’s Elimination Chamber match. The fans in attendance and those watching at home were floored by the chemistry the two displayed even after years of no-contact. However, it wasn’t a one-on-one match.

That being said, Punk is open to whatever is asked of him to contribute to Cena’s remaining dates with WWE. The Second City Saint told Tudum by Netflix that he’d be fine with a tag team match alongside Cena but teased his readiness to go if The Cenation Leader shows interest in locking back up with him one more time.
