‘A nobody to me’- Tommy Fury refuses to chase Jake Paul for a fight anymore

Tommy Fury could’ve only wished for a certain time to turn back time and prevent getting the rib injury in order to save the Jake Paul fight on December 2021. However, the main event was saved regardless when Paul’s opponent, former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley stepped in for a rematch to avenge his split decision loss from the first fight that happened back in August 2021.

Paul made the most of the late replacement opportunity and therefore turned the storm of late replacement and a much motivated Woodley in his favour when he knocked the latter out cold and pulled off the biggest upset in combat sports history. Now, both Paul and Fury are passed over that time period for more than two months but still, Fury definitely got some reservations for Paul for not considering rescheduling the fight, even though he doesn’t care much.

Fury gave a 13-minute interview to iFL TV to talk about his training, his recovery from his rib injury and the possibility of fighting Paul in near future and what if the fight never comes under the radar.

I’ve said I’m ready for this fight no problem, let’s get on sooner rather than later, not bothered,” said Fury You know the ball is completely in his court. My plan is to fight in April and if he wants to fight after that no problem, let’s get it on but until then if you don’t want the fight good day like you know. Stop mentioning my name [saying to Paul], I know, I noticed that he’s always quick to mention my name you know…

He’s a comedic act, I’m performing like a world champion in the gym and all I need is the experience underneath the lights and that’s what I’m focusing on at the minute and whether that fight comes it comes, if it doesn’t you know, Jake Paul’s nobody to me, I’m not interested, concludes Fury.

What do you make of Fury’s comments on Paul? Do you think Paul is still a non-serious prospect of the sport of boxing? Also, do you think the fight between Paul and Fury will ever come to fruition? A couple of criticisms against Paul is that he either fights relatively much older athletes or he doesn’t fight a complete boxer, and fighting Fury will remove both of the criticisms. Sometimes, in order to elevate your brand value, one has to step aside from thinking about what money does the fight have to bring currently on the table. Cash will come and go, but shutting doubters and chasing legacy is forever.
