“Time to hang up my gloves” – Amir Khan bids an emotional farewell from the world of professional boxing

Amir Khan, one of the most decorated British boxers of all time has announced that he is done with boxing. Khan is a former unified light-welterweight world champion and has once competed for the Ring magazine middleweight titles in 2016. Khan started his professional boxing career back in 2005 and was undefeated for 18 bouts. In 2009, Khan defeated Andreas Kotelnik and won the WBA light-welterweight title. After that, he retained the championship five times.

In 2012, Khan bounced back from multiple losses and went on a five-fight win streak. In 2016, Kahn fought Canelo Alvarez for the WBC and The Ring middleweight titles but lost the bout via KO. His last title fight was against Terence Crawford in 2019 for the WBO welterweight title which also he lost.

Khan’s last professional bout was against Kell Brook in February 2022. In the fight, Khan lost via TKO in the sixth. After that fight, many assumed that the loss against Brook was the finishing blow of Khan’s career.

Recently on May 7, Brook announced that he will retire from boxing. It seems like Khan also had the same idea about his career.

Khan recently broke the news about his retirement to his fans and followers through social media.

The former champion took the Twitter and revealed that it is finally the time for him to quit boxing. Khan explained that in his 27 years of professional career he felt extremely blessed and happy. The fighter thanked his former teams, friends, family and fans from the bottom of his heart for their incredible support and love.

“It’s time to hang up my gloves. I feel blessed to have had such an amazing career that has spanned over 27 years. I want to say a heartfelt thanks to the incredible teams I have worked with and to my family, friends and fans for the love and support they have shown me,” wrote Khan.

Khan hasn’t said anything about his plans regarding the future now that he has retired but will most probably spend most of his time with his lovely family.
