Ben Askren’s take on the Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley fight was much anticipated and the former Bellator champion has spoken.
Ben Askren is a friend of Tyron Woodley and also knows Jake Paul a little too well from their meeting on April 17th in the year 2021. Ben made his first professional boxing debut against the Youtube boxer with an amazing pre-fight press conference that had most of them hoping the MMA veteran was going to win but Paul shocked everyone by knocking out Askren in the very first round. The tension between Woodley and Paul has now given us the boxing debut of former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.
Tyron is set to take on Jake Paul on August 29th headlining Showtime Boxing’s pay-per-view. The fight is set to take place in Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio. Though Askren would like his friend Tyron to win the fight, a Jake Paul victory would help Ben in one way. “Funky,” says that if Jake manages to beat his friend, it would make him feel better about his first-round KO against the Youtuber.

“I’m still not under the conclusion that (Jake) is a good boxer. He hit me one time really good, but it wasn’t like he beat me soundly over six rounds. He does hit hard, I guess we’ll give him credit for that,” Askren said about Paul to TMZ Sports. The MMA fighter says despite the fact that Jake beat him in the very first round, it does not say that the YouTuber is a legit boxer.
“If he’s able to beat Tyron, I will probably feel much better about what happened to me, because I’ll think damn, Tyron’s really good. I think that’s probably unlikely, but in that case, that’s probably what I’d think.” This is the first time Woodley is stepping into a boxing ring and this is also the first time Jake Paul will be tested against a real striker. All the fighters he has taken out so far did have striking as their best weapon.
