Ben Askren says he “gained a lot of respect for Jake Paul” after the YouTuber’s win over Tyron Woodley

Ben Askren on Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley
Jake Paul earned a narrow split decision win over Tyron Woodley on the 29th of August in an eight-round professional boxing match. With that win, Paul went 4-0 up in his career, with notable victories over Ben Askren, Nate Robinson and Woodley himself.
Prior to his fight against Woodley, Paul faced Askren, and knocked him out in the very first round. That was the first time, Paul had ever faced a combat sports athlete in his Boxing career. Although, Askren was more of a wrestler, quite a number of people from the MMA community began taking ‘The Problem Child’ more seriously.
In a recent interview Instagram Live session, Ben Askren gave his opinion on the recently concluded Paul vs Woodley fight. While ‘Funky’ claimed that Jake Paul did not earn his respect when he beat him in April, this year, he added that his win over made him gain a lot of respect for the YouTuber.

Askren was quoted as saying, “The other thing that happened, for me, I gained a lot of respect for Jake Paul. I know he got a TKO on me but I knew I wasn’t very good at boxing. I told all of you that I’m not a very good boxer I just think I’m better than he is. So when he got a knockdown on me, yeah whatever, he didn’t earn my respect.” [via. MMA Fighting]
He continued, “Watching him versus Tyron, I have a lot of respect for Tyron’s striking ability and I think Tyron won the fight but either way, it was a highly competitive bout and I think it’s pretty evident – and the only way you’re not gonna think this is if you really hate the guy and I don’t hate him, I’m whatever towards him – it’s pretty evident to me that he’s worked pretty hard at this and he’s pretty tough.” [via MMA Fighting]
Askren finally concluded, “He took some pretty big shots from Tyron and he kept on fighting. So in that respect, he has earned my respect, for sure, in a way that he didn’t in my fight or any of his fights previously.” [via MMA Fighting]
Paul is currently expected to face Tyron Woodley in a rematch, provided the former UFC welterweight champion gets himself an ‘I Love Jake Paul’ tattoo. The clause was agreed upon during the post-fight interview. There is also a possibility of a fight between Tommy Fury and Jake Paul, who have been going at it for quite a while.
As for Askren, he is currently not as busy as Paul. He made bank following his fight against ‘The Problem Child’, and will be looking forward to multiplying it given his interest in cryptocurrency.
