Katie Taylor successfully defended her WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring female lightweight titles against Amanda Serrano this weekend and made history. It was the first ever female headlined event in Madison Square Garden and the fighters proved their capabilities.

Both the fighters were looking sharp and started off by trading shots. No one was willing to back off and were trying to put pressure on each other. The fight was extremely close and it could have gone either way. After ten rounds of back and forth, Taylor was declared the winner via split decision.

Taylor just solidified her legacy as one of greatest female boxers to ever step into the ring. The fighter has struggled a lot to get there and all her hard work is paying off.

Shields recently took to Twitter to share her opinions regarding Katie Taylor. The female middleweight champion seems to have been emotionally moved by the performance put forward by Taylor during her fight.

Shields in her tweet explained she noticed that during the ring walkout of Taylor, the fighter stopped for a moment and turned around to address her fans and supporters. According to Shields, to be able to do that in a situation like that shows the mental toughness of the Irish. Shields revealed that she would have done that it would have been an extremely scary moment for her. The fighter also commended Taylor for the choice of song during the walkout.

“During Katies walkout I noticed she stopped and turned around and looked at all the crowd!!!! Shows the mental of her because If I did that, my heart would drop into my stomach like I’d start crying! Beautiful song to come out to too!,” wrote Shields.

Shields wasn’t the only one who was impressed by Taylor and her performance. The whole world saw the fight and are now fans of the lady. She retained her title and made history at the same time. It was a fight that people will not forget in many years to come.
