Sports reporter, Joe Habeeb has shed light on a highly debated topic in the boxing world. It is about Ryan Garcia’s controversial drug test after he failed his B sample test recently. Since then, there’s been a lot of talk about revoking the majority decision he won over Devin Haney on April 20. Habeeb’s tweet addressed Eddie Hearn’s comments, who runs Matchroom Boxing and is Haney’s promoter.
The English promoter gave his thoughts on Garcia’s B sample results, and his contradictory statements caused several comments to pour in. According to reports, Hearn asked for the majority decision to be annulled and the fight to be declared a no-contest. However, Habeeb noticed his contradiction since Hearn’s fighters have also tested positive for drugs in the past.
When his fighter Alycia Baumgardner tested positive in her fight against Christina Linardatou? Why shouldn’t that decision be ruled a no-contest? This is hypocrisy at its finest.

After the Alycia Baumgardner vs. Christina Linardatou fight, she tested positive in a drug test. During this, Hearn defended her and never suggested that the fight should become a no-contest. Hence, Habeeb highlighted how Hearn’s comment reflects his double standard as a promoter.
Similarly, Conor Benn, who is another fighter promoted by Hearn, has also been wrapped up in a drug test controversy. However, across this, Hearn has asked people to give him the benefit of the doubt, even though the BBBofC suspended Benn’s boxing license.
Eddie Hearn announces Devin Haney’s next opponent
Garcia’s future in boxing remains ambiguous since the NYSAC has not given its verdict. While Hearn believes that a rematch would be massive, Bill Haney has demanded that Garcia be banned. Furthermore, even Haney has not shown an interest in the rematch but wishes to go back to the ring.
For now, both fighters have to get on with their lives. Garcia seems content to party and challenge a fighter every night. Similarly, Haney has taken to social media to challenge a few boxers, but his next opponent is almost certain. As such, Hearn spoke about this during an interview with Fight Hub TV.
After Haney acquired the WBC super-lightweight title from Regis Prograis, he was set to fight Sandor Martin. Since Garcia missed the weight limit in the fight, Devin Haney retained his title. As such, Haney still wishes to pursue that fight since Martin is a mandatory challenger for his title.
