When things got heated between Merchant and Mayweather, it became extremely famous and often got talked about on social media. During one of his podcasts, Rogan discussed the bizarre moment and claimed it was crazy.
Rogan said: “Remember when he was in the ring with Floyd Mayweather. If I was twenty years younger. I’d kick your ass. That’s the craziest thing that anybody could ever say ever. You’re literally talking to the greatest boxer the world has ever known.”
Joe Rogan laughed a lot while remembering the incident and mentioned, Merchant was outrageous as he said he would beat the greatest boxer of all time if he was younger.
Why did Floyd Mayweather refuse to be interviewed by reporter Larry Merchant?
Floyd Mayweather is not much known for his humble nature; instead, the fighter often puts himself down to everybody else. However, it was rare to see him lash out at Larry Merchant, who is not even a boxer.
Larry Merchant is one of the most brash and brazen journalists covering combat sports, and his reputation is well-known among the fighters. According to Mayweather, Merchant never gave him the respect or credit he deserved and called him out for not having knowledge about boxing.
“You know what I’m gonna do cause you never give me a fair shake, you know that? So I’m gonna let you talk to Victor Ortiz. I’m through. Put someone else here to give me an interview. Talk to Victor Ortiz! HBO needs to fire you. You don’t know shit about boxing! You ain’t shit! You’re not shit!” Floyd Mayweather told Merchant, which triggered the response.
Since then, Mayweather has gone on to finish his career undefeated with a record of 50-0, a milestone for every other boxer in the upcoming generation. On top of it, Mayweather made himself a brand and was able to become a billionaire.
