In the world of boxing, Mike Tyson stands out among other legendary boxers. Known for his ferocious power and lightning-fast punches, Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history at the age of 20. However, many people don’t know that even before his professional career took off, Tyson was already making waves in the amateur boxing scene.
Tyson had a very difficult childhood, and he grew up in a crime-infested neighborhood. Subsequently, his surroundings caused him to fend for himself, which later became second nature. By the time he was 13 years old, Tyson had served enough time in juvenile prison to give him a taste of what it’s like to be a violent criminal. Furthermore, this is when Cus D’Amato discovered his potential, which gave Tyson’s rage a new outlet.
Subsequently, a video of a 15-year-old Tyson has resurfaced, which shows him fighting a 25-year-old boxer taller than Tyson. Even though Tyson was just 15 years old, he could dominate and end the fight with his ferocious style. In addition, Tyson managed to drop his opponent to the canvas within 10 seconds of the Junior Olympics Championship.
Even as an amateur, Tyson had incredible footwork, head movement, and punching power to KO his opponent. Furthermore, the fight shows us a glimpse of the monster that Tyson would eventually become in a few years as a professional boxer.

At his peak, Tyson was the most dangerous heavyweight the world had ever seen. Furthermore, while he is known as ‘the baddest man on the planet’, Tyson has had a tremulous life and is quite sensitive. Tyson grew up in a troubled home with a single mom who passed away when he was 16.
Subsequently, he was arrested 38 times by the time he was 13 for various petty offenses. Subsequently, Tyson ended up in juvenile detention, where his boxing skills were discovered. Furthermore, his life improved after meeting Teddy Atlas and D’Amato Tyson, but he still had several insecurities. One such instance can be seen when Atlas had to calm down a young 15-year-old Tyson before a fight.
It is hard to imagine the ferocious Iron Mike shedding a tear before a fight. However, when he was younger, he was overwhelmed by his fear and insecurities. However, Atlas and D’Amato were able to harness this fear and turn it into fuel for Tyson’s amazing performances.
