Mike Tyson is widely regarded as one of the most formidable and iconic figures in the sport’s history. Tyson is known for his incredible punching power and ferocious fighting style, earning the nickname “Iron Mike.” In addition, Tyson’s first professional fight occurred on March 6, 1985. Tyson, who was just 18 years old at the time, faced Hector Mercedes in Albany, New York.
Furthermore, Mike Tyson won the fight via a first-round knockout, launching his legendary boxing career. He became the youngest heavyweight champion in history and one of the most iconic and dominant boxers of his era. Tyson revealed how much he made from the fight in an episode of Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson, with Polo G and Henry Cejudo. Subsequently, Tyson stated:
My first fight was for 500 bucks. I really did nothing. Somebody took 500 bucks out of their pocket and gave it to me.Mike Tyson via his podcast.
Under the guidance of his coach, Cus D’Amato, Tyson’s drive to win the championship motivated him to box. Subsequently, Tyson stated that he never fought for money and initially only wanted the world to notice and witness him.
Hence, even though, at the beginning, he was making very little money, he knew that he would achieve greatness. Tyson stated that once he started to fight for money, his life went downhill because his passion started to fade.
Mike Tyson’s current lifestlye
Tyson has been married three times and has fathered seven kids with his ex-wives. Subsequently, his children are Mikey, Lorna, Rayna, Amir, Miguel, Milan, and Morocco. Since retiring as a professional boxer, ‘Iron Mike’ has continued to pursue a variety of interests.
Furthermore, he began acting, appearing in several television shows and movies, often in small roles. Tyson started his own boxing promotion business called Iron Mike Productions. He also opened “Tyson Ranch” in 2016 when California legalized cannabis because of his interest in marijuana, and it’s since become a multi-million dollar business. He got his first taste of podcasting with “Mike Tyson’s Hotboxin’,” a show where he interviews some of the biggest fighters and personalities in the sport. The podcast still remains relevant even today.
Tyson is also an angel investor in a few businesses. The most recent venture he made was opening a new cafe in Amsterdam called “Tyson 2.0”. Recently, Tyson has been training Francis Ngannou for his fight with Tyson Fury. He will corner Ngannou during the fight against Fury.
