Canelo Alvarez will fight once more in May at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas against Mexican boxer Jaime Munguia. Even with Alvarez’s next fight just around the corner, boxing fans still can’t help but demand a fight against David Benavidez. This is mainly because they have been on a direct collision course with each other for years. However, this never materialized and remains a dream matchup for fans.
After Alvarez’s dominant performance against Jermall Charlo, people assumed he would next fight Benavidez. This made sense since Benavidez holds the WBC super-middleweight title and is a mandatory challenger to Alvarez. It was also reported that Alvarez was offered $55 million to fight Benavidez and $35 million to fight Munguia. However, Alvarez recently claimed that he was not offered any such fight deal and stated:
He’s nothing to offer me money… but if one promoter who I work for comes and says I offer to you 150 to 200 million, I will fight tomorrow. That is the only reason why I fight with him.Canelo Alvarez at the pre-fight event for Alvarez vs. Munguia

Alvarez stated that Benavidez does not bring anything to the table for him and that he is the bigger name among them. Furthermore, Canelo Alvarez stated that even if they offered him a fight deal, he could easily earn the same amount in another fight.
Hence, while Alvarez stated that Benavidez could not offer him a huge fight deal, he mentioned that a promoter could. In such a scenario, he would agree to fight Benavidez if he was offered a $150-$200 million fight deal.
Canelo Alvarez fires back at Mike Tyson
While the boxing world continues to demand that Alvarez fight Benavidez, he believes that he has nothing to prove. According to Alvarez, fans also demand the next big fight, even though he has fought several formidable opponents across his career. Similarly, boxing fans are not the only ones to demand the Benavidez fight.

Garcia stated that if he were Alvarez, he would have already fought Benavidez by now. Subsequently, Tyson also believes that Alvarez should fight and uphold the legacy of Mexican boxing champions.
Alvarez reacted to this by stating that he would take Tyson’s opinion seriously if he was sober. Hence, the Mexican boxer gave a subtle jibe at Tyson after the former heavyweight stated that Alvarez was scared. In addition, Alvarez has stated that he is not scared to fight anyone.
