The announcement of Shakur Stevenson‘s retirement from boxing has sent shock waves through the world of combat sports. The American fighter, aged 26, announced his retirement from boxing on Tuesday. Furthermore, Stevenson is regarded as one of the top prospects in boxing and the undefeated fighter has a 21-0 professional record, with 10 of his victories coming by knockout. In his last fight, Stevenson won a unanimous decision over Edwin De Los Santos in November 2023 and successfully defended his WBC lightweight title. 

The fight was controversial, with many fans unhappy with the outcome. The overwhelming opinion was that Shakur Stevenson was trying to avoid engagement throughout the match, making it completely dull. As a result, he received a lot of criticism for the fight, which saw the least number of blows landed.

While it’s not clear why he decided to step down, it’s safe to assume that his retirement decision was prompted by the announcement of the match-up between Denys Berinchyk and Emanuel Navarrete, who will be fighting for the WBO’s vacant title of Lightweight Champion. 

Stevenson has won world championships in three weight classes: featherweight, super featherweight, and lightweight. He is the holder of the unified as well as the lineal and featherweight titles. In addition, ‘Sugar’ was a silver medalist for the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics in bantamweight.

In a shocking announcement, 26-year-old Shakur Stevenson has decided to retire from professional boxing. Stevenson has had an illustrious career, with a professional undefeated record of 21-0 with 10 KOs. However, he assured his fans that he will continue to work on improving the art of pugilism and will be teaching others how to do the same.

Furthermore, his decision could be related to the announcement of the Berinchyk vs. Navarrete fight for the WBO’s vacant lightweight title. Subsequently, fans reacted to Stevenson’s announcement by stating, “How am I supposed to sleep without watching a Shakur fight?!???”

Fans trolled Stevenson for announcing his retirement from boxing after his last fight, which was very boring for fans. Subsequently, a fan stated that without Stevenson’s fights, they would have trouble falling asleep. In addition, some fans mentioned that Stevenson will be back from his retirement soon enough.
