A California man has sued boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. He claimed that Mayweather ordered one of his bodyguards to attack him. Subsequently, the altercation happened after Eduardo Andres Torres Martinez tried to take videos of Mayweather. In addition, the altercation occurred on February 10th, 2022, at the Yard House restaurant, located at the Crypto.Com arena in Los Angeles. The incident began after Mayweather entered the restaurant, and Martinez attempted to take a video of him.
Subsequently, Martinez claimed Floyd Mayweather noticed this and signaled his bodyguard to handle the situation. According to the lawsuit, after Mayweather’s instructions, one of the guards walked up to Torres Martinez and hit him. After this, Martinez claimed that the bodyguard then struggled to remove his phone. According to the lawsuit, those actions caused the plaintiff great fear of death, injury, and bodily injury. Similarly, Martinez had also filed a lawsuit for assault and battery.
Now, two years later, Martinez sued Mayweather, citing damages of past, present, and future pain, distress, anguish, and suffering, including physical and mental pain and suffering, inconvenience, emotional stress, and impairment of the quality of life. However, an eyewitness account of the incident has given rise to a contradiction in Martinez’s story. The witness recounted the incident according to his memory, and he stated that Mayweather was not present at the venue during the altercation.
Furthermore, it was stated that Mayweather left the restaurant because of overcrowding and the commotion upon his arrival. Hence, this is completely contradictory to the story that Martinez gave while filing the lawsuit.
Oscar de La Hoya reacts to Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquaio 2
Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya may be boxing promoter rivals currently, but they were once rivals inside the ring. Furthermore, their relationship has always been sour, and after Ryan Garcia’s recent link-up with Mayweather, it has further deteriorated because De La Hoya asked him to back away.
Subsequently, De La Hoya has also expressed his opinion of the highly anticipated rematch between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. In 2015, Mayweather and Pacquiao had the ‘Fight of the Century’ and they are now ready for their rematch. Fans are highly interested in this, but De La Hoya considers the fight a simple ‘money grab.’
Hence, De La Hoya was not impressed with Mayweather and Pacquiao for stepping into the ring for the rematch. However, De la Hoya believed that the fight will bring more attention to the sport and has praised it for that.
