WBC Super lightweight champ, Devin Haney finally meets “King” Ryan Garcia on April 20th live on DAZN. At 31-0, ‘The Dream’ is the #7 P4P for the Ring Magazine and is undefeated as of yet. Garcia, of Golden Boy Promotions, is 24-1 and thinks more highly of himself compared to the Super lightweight. As such, he is ready to duke it out at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The duo of pro boxers have been engaging in an all-out feud that has taken some weird and ugly turns.
Despite The 25-year-old ‘King Ry’ bagging a stunning KO victory over Oscar Duarte last December, Haney is dismissive. In his mind, Garcia’s lack of momentum and change in pace has amounted to nothing. Retorting back to his father, Bill Haney‘s defamation of micromanaging him, the champ later accused Ryan Garcia of drug use amidst back-and-forth. Here’s what Garcia writes on X –
If I’ve lied about the things I’m saying and doing then yeah I’m tripping. But I’m not and everyone is coming at me like I’m on drugs and I’m going thru an episode nah! DRUG TEST ME! YOU WILL NEVER FIND DRUGS. If I did coke or drugs there would’ve been a video...Leaked...already.Ryan Garcia wrote on X
This running gag in the boxing community stems not only from Haney firing back but also from Boxing Promoter, Oscar De La Hoya. His overt public feud with Ryan Garcia and his varied bizarre antics have left fans wondering. Fight fans often nudge that De La Hoya, and consequently Garcia’s whole camp might have coke-fuelled jests from time to time. They aren’t the only ones.
Garcia, himself telling FightHype.com that he was high during the interview didn’t help improve matters. The coke-use gag is so prominent that in the latest pinch, UFC’s Sean O’Malley/coach Tim Welch mockingly did a skit of them snorting cocaine. Garcia already put an end to drug accusations at the Palladium in Times Square pre-fight presser. Now he doubles down on it yet again.
Jake Paul responds to Ryan Garcia’s call-out and alleged drug usage claims on rival
Jake Paul made quick work of 17-3 journeyman, Ryan Bourland in Puerto Rico. Bourland has more experience as an amateur boxer, along with 19 pro outings. However, his leaning back, cowering from the influencer’s shots riled fight fans. As such, despite his victory, Paul hasn’t garnered much positive connotations on the matter.
Alongside this, Ryan Garcia took to social media to voice a preemptive strike on Paul and his win. He even indulged in a wish to end Paul’s influencer-boxing stint. Speaking on Garcia’s desperate attempt on a callout, check out what Paul had to say on the matter at his post-fight press conference:
Most Valuable Promotions co-founders Nakisa Bidarian and Paul, both nudged that Garcia is playing the “Jake Paul” playbook. Even copied his callouts.
Paul even dragged down ‘King Ry’ saying his desperation comes out as a lack of mental sanity. Currently, Garcia, 24-1, 20 KOs is gearing up to face Devin Haney, 31-0, 15 KOs for a mega fight. He meets the unbeaten 140-pound titleholder in April. However, given the current trajectory, he might soon have an exciting opponent in ‘the Problem Child‘.
