“I feel he’s still ticking over” Anthony Joshua believes Tyson Fury will be back for the right amount of money

Anthony Joshua will try to regain his heavyweight championship from Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch this year.

Before Andy Ruiz and Anthony Joshua faced off, all things were heading towards making the biggest fight in British boxing history, the fight between Undefeated Boxers Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua a real possibility. Although Tyson had a small blemish on his perfect record, that being a draw against Deontay Wilder, it was nothing compared to the knockout loss suffered by Anthony Joshua at the hands of a massive underdog in Ruiz.

Though the fight lost its aura to a degree, Joshua was able to climb back up, regain his title, and even defend it against Kubrat Pulev. Tyson on the other hand had won the WBC Heavyweight championship from Deontay Wilder and even defended it at their rematch via a late knockout. All was seemingly well until Joshua was utterly outclassed by Cruiserweight Champion, Oleksandr Usyk and lost his heavyweight titles for the second time. Though Joshua may have a legitimate chance at regaining his title once again, the dream bout between him and fury seems to have been left in their past.

Tyson was meant to fight Joshua in 2021, with all but the contracts left unsigned, this was when the WBC mandated Wilder get the rematch, Hence the Joshua-Fury bout fell off. Now after his latest defense against Dillian Whyte, Tyson Fury has hinted at retiring from boxing and fighting purely in exhibition bouts. His first opponent is targetted to be the current UFC Heavyweight Champion, Francis Ngannou. The WBC has also agreed to respect Fury’s decision, whatever it may be.

Joshua however thinks differently and still sees the bout as a possibility. According to Michael Benson, Joshua said , “If Tyson Fury was to come out of retirement and honour the gentleman’s agreement, there’s a lot of money to be made” referring to their agreement made last year to face each other to unify the Heavyweight Championships of the World. The former champ continued, “I feel he’s still ticking over and he’ll come back if the right fight is presented to him.”

Joshua will try to regain his Heavyweight Championship sometime this year. Eddie Hearn has said that Usyk also has a say in where the bout takes place. Joshua believes that Usyk outboxed him in two rounds and his path to victory is “going back to the basics and looking for the kockout”
