Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk rematch in the works
Anthony Joshua acknowledges that his defeat against Oleksandr Usyk earlier this year still bothers him. When Joshua was outpointed by Usyk in London, he lost his heavyweight championship for the second time in four fights. When the Brit rematches Usyk, he will have the opportunity to become a three-time heavyweight champion.
Rob McCracken, his long-serving trainer, has gone on, and Robert Garcia has been recruited to his team to work alongside Angel Fernandez, who was previously there. Joshua will be fighting for the second time in the kingdom, having reclaimed his world belts with a points victory over Andy Ruiz Jr in Riyadh in December 2019.

On August 20, Joshua will fight with Usyk in the heavyweight division in Saudi Arabia. The rescheduled fight will now take place in Jeddah later this summer, giving Joshua a chance to redeem himself. In 2019, he will strive to repeat his triumph over Andy Ruiz Jr in the same country, Upon the same Joshua stated regarding the bout, “I now have my date with history set to become three-time unified heavyweight champion of the world. What an opportunity… A happy fighter is a dangerous fighter and I am the happiest and most motivated I’ve been.”
After announcing that his assistant coach Angel Fernandez has been elevated in a change to his training camp, Joshua has admitted that he got his tactics absolutely wrong the first time.
However, he has committed to correcting his mistakes. He stated at the Oxford Union “That was my game plan because I thought I could compete with him as a boxer. And I think he won two more rounds than I did. That’s how he became champion. So the goal now is to go back to basics and go for the knockout.”
