The highly anticipated clash between Artur Beterbeiv and Callum Smith finally happened on January 13th. The fight was carried out in Quebec City, Canada, as the main event and Beterbeiv successfully defended his WBC, WBO, and IBF light heavyweight titles against the former super-middleweight champion. In addition, he went into the fight as one of the favorites to beat Smith, and it’s clear why. 

For the 20th time in his professional career, Beterbiev went into the fight with a 100 percent knockout ratio. Furthermore, it was clear that Artur Beterbiev was determined to maintain his undefeated record and knockout streak.

From the first round, Beterbeiv stayed on the offense and backed Smith to the ropes with consistent pressure. While the latter attempted to remain in the middle of the ring, Beterbeiv was able to overwhelm him. In addition, Smith had the advantage in terms of reach and attempted to keep Beterbeiv in check with his jabs.

However, Beterbeiv persistently kept closing the distance and continued to unleash his punches once he was in close range. Moreover, even though Beterbiev had a disadvantage in terms of reach, he still managed to land several jabs at Smith. The elite display of skills and fighting IQ reflected how good Beterbeiv is inside the ring. 

Hence, Beterbiev dominated the first seven rounds and then got two knockdowns late in the seventh. Smith managed to beat the referee’s count after his first knockdown and remained on his feet. Smith’s corner stepped in to stop the fight after their man went down for the second time.

Beterbeiv was able to deliver a stellar and dominant performance against Smith. Furthermore, ahead of the fight, Beterbeiv was heavily favored to win this fight but Smith being the great boxer he is in his own right, suffered his first professional loss via KO at the hands of Beterbeiv.

The fight was action-packed from the get-go and Beterbeiv managed to relent and aggressively stay on the offensive. Smith tried to fight back, but Beterbeiv never backed down and kept hurting Smith with his fast jabs.

Subsequently, Smith eventually succumbed to the damage of Beterbeiv’s attacks in the seventh round. Furthermore, fans reacted to Beterbeiv’s performance:

Fans have expressed their admiration for Beterbeiv’s fighting skills and have especially, appreciated his jabs. Moreover, several of them, remarked that his jab was as good as a right-hand straight that kept landing precisely. Furthermore, fans have taken the time to comment on how people assumed that Smith would be able to maintain distance but got hit by jabs in every round.
