Bob Arum to work on making Devin Haney vs Vasiliy Lomachenko super fight

Vasiliy Lomachenko- Devin Haney

At the age of 23, Devin Haney has already proved more to the world than ever possible so early but it seems like Bob Arum is set to put a major challenger to see how far can Haney go being the best through one of his fighters under his promotional agency, Top Rank Boxing. Haney just came off becoming the first undisputed world lightweight champion in more than 3 decades when he defeated the previously undefeated Australian boxer and former world champion George Kambosos Jr.

Haney is now 28-0 with 15 wins by knockout. Haney’s game plan against Kambosos was to dominate the distant range fighting with jabs and footwork and dominate the close distance with body shots and clinch work. The plan paid off as Haney secured a unanimous decision victory over Kambosos. The fight ended with respect from both the opponents preceded by a lot of trash talk leading up to the fight.

Before Haney, it was Ukrainian boxer Vasiliy Lomachenko that was supposed to fight George Kambosos Jr in George’s home country of Australia. But due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Lomachenko chose to put the fight aside to join the Ukrainian army and defend his nation. Now, Lomachenko’s promoter Bob Arum, who has been in the promotions business for boxing for more than 6 decades, has decided to set up a fight between current undisputed champion Devin Haney and Lomachenko on Lomachenko’s return to the boxing ring.

As per sports journalist Michael Benson via Twitter, “Bob Arum has declared that he’d like to make Devin Haney vs Vasyl Lomachenko for Haney’s undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF & WBO lightweight world titles…”

What do you make of this fight and who do you think wins? The last boxer to become the undisputed lightweight champion in boxing before Haney was Pernell Whittaker who achieved the feat back in 1990. What do you make of Haney’s potential as a boxer and Lomachenko being a potential challenge for him? Do you think that will be the most difficult fight for Haney style-wise?
