Boxer Simiso Buthelezi has died after strange in-ring accident
The boxer has passed away after 3 days in the hospital
After 3 days of fighting for his life in the Hospital, Simiso Buthelezi has passed away as a result of his injuries. The former African All Lightweight champion suffered a blow to the head that left him disoriented and had him rushed to the hospital.
Buthelezi was competing in a scheduled 10-round fight in South Africa against Siphesihle Mntungwa. Buthelezi was defending his WBF All Lightweight Title and was according to most reports up on the scorecards and winning the fight. In the ninth round, a certain sequence resulted in Buthelezi knocking Mntungwa to the canvas. Buthelezi didn’t seem to absorb any damage in the close quarters’ exchange however his head did seem to clash on the ropes.
After the referee allowed Mntungwa to take the 10-count, on resuming the fight Buthelezi surprisingly started walking towards the ref with his guard up high, as the ref pivoted out of the way Buthelezi started punching the air, aiming for the corner. The referee promptly stepped in and stopped the bout.

Simiso Buthelezi put in a coma for two days before his eventual death
After the fight, Buthelezi was rushed to the hospital where he was given a CT scan and the eyes of the world were on the young man as the clip of him punching air had gone viral. His coach would provide updates on his situation with him even blaming witchcraft to be the reason his student is suffering as there was no significant damage inflicted on the boxer.
While many internet doctors dismissed the injury as a mere concussion with a slight chance of a brain bleed, by Tuesday evening 7:50 South Africa local time it was clear Buthelezi was in a severe condition as he had been in a coma and unresponsive since his admission to the hospital
At night on Tuesday, the unfortunate occurred and Simiso Buthelezi died of his injuries. The official medical report said he suffered severe brain bleeding. Buthelezi had recently graduated with a degree in zoology and botany from the UniZulu University. In hindsight, the Christiano Ronaldo Esque celebration from Siphesihle Mntungwa comes off as very distasteful.
