Canelo Alvarez finally revealed why he couldn’t get a rematch with Dmitry Bivol. The duo fought last year, and the Russian boxer soundly defeated Canelo Alvarez. Alvarez wanted to rematch Bivol to avenge his loss. However, he could not make the rematch happen.

Subsequently, he went on to fight Gennady Golovkin and John Ryder instead of Bivol. Before signing a 3-fight contract with Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) with promoter Al Haymon. Alvarez said, “Look, [Bivol] asked and tried to make the negotiations hard, right, and tried to make his own decision and everything. And I tried my best.” There’s a big reason why we won’t see a Bivol rematch for a while, at least not until May 2025. Furthermore, Bivol’s current contract is with Matchroom Boxing.

Canelo’s left wrist injury became another reason he didn’t want to fight Bivol last year. Furthermore, he underwent surgery to fix it, and many people assumed he was attempting to avoid being completely defeated by the more technical Bivol. Bivol had a size advantage and outclassed the Mexican legend.

Canelo Alvarez has stepped up his game and made much progress in recent years. However, many people think he’s not improving like Robert Garcia. Garcia is a former boxing champion with a great career, winning 34 fights with just three losses.

In an interview recently, Garcia expressed his belief that Alvarez’s performance has begun to worsen. He also mentioned how this can be seen in his recent fights. He further claimed that Charlo would be in optimal health and wondered if Alvarez would be able to cope with the additional strain. Despite the fact that the odds are heavily in favor of Charlo, many, including a boxing legend such as Garcia, are optimistic about his chances of success.

A few days ago, a former boxing champion who has faced Alvarez expressed a similar sentiment however Mike Tyson felt Charlo was looking off. Only time will tell if Canelo outclasses Charlo on his way to another title defence.
