Undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez recently made a harsh critique of the scheduled battle between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul. Furthermore, the Mexican boxing star referred to the event as more of a show than a real bout. Many people in the combat sports world have expressed their displeasure about this fight.
Dana White highlighted the significant age gap between Paul and Tyson. Subsequently, Conor McGregor blatantly stated that he was not interested in the event. As such, Alvarez has also now expressed a similar opinion while talking about the fight. Alvarez believes that the involvement of Netflix in boxing is good for the sport, but it does not make this fight special.
I think Netflix being involved, yes, is good, but not in that kind of fight. I think it's more of a show than a fight.Canelo Alvarez via TMZ Sports
In the past, Jake Paul has called out Alvarez several times because he dreams of becoming a world champion one day. His attempts so far have been futile, because Canelo doesn’t regard him as a real boxer, and rightly so.
Alvarez has always rejected his challenge and dismissed him as an opponent. In addition, Alvarez has been having some beef with Tyson after the legendary heavyweight stated that Alvarez is ducking David Benavidez. This is correct in hindsight because Alvarez is currently set to fight Jaime Munguia on May 4, 2024. Recently, the Mexican even demanded upwards of 150-200 million dollars to fight Benavidez.
KSI trolls Jake Paul with an April Fool prank
Paul’s rival, KSI, has been another notable celebrity to criticize the fight. The YouTuber ridiculed how Paul is fighting a senior citizen since Tyson will be 58 when the fight happens. Now he has taken this a step further by directing a sly dig towards the fight with a prank.
KSI posted a fight announcement on his social media that he would be fighting George Foreman. The post was a joke since it was April Fool’s Day, and the poster included hilarious details. As such, the poster mentioned 5 second rounds, 150 oz gloves, no KOs, and no punching allowed.
The post was clearly meant to ridicule Jake Paul‘s fight. In addition, the fake rules also ridiculed how specific rules do not justify a boxing fight against someone who is significantly older than you.
