Canelo Alvarez recently spoke to The Breakfast Club and revealed when he might retire from boxing. The 33-year-old super middleweight champion will fight his sixty-fourth professional bout against Jermell Charlo.
As he looks to defend his titles against Charlo, fans have wondered how many more years Canelo will compete inside the squared circle. Alvarez has a lot of mileage on his body for a fighter his age. Some people consider Canelo to be out of his prime. Others believe he can keep fighting at the highest level for a bit longer. “I think I’ve got four years more. Five years, maybe. I’ve been in professional boxing since I was 15-years-old. That’s almost 18 years fighting professionally.”
Alvarez always said that he would retire by the age of 36 or 37 after spending 18 years in boxing. He made his professional boxing debut in 2005 and has accomplished many incredible feats since then. Canelo always wished to enjoy his life with his family peacefully after retiring. Furthermore, subsequent to his long boxing career, he is now worth an estimated whopping $200 Million.
In the near future, Alvarez can double his net worth if he strategically plans his next fights. He has garnered a lot of respect and gained legendary status in the boxing community. He can call out fighters like Jermall Charlo, Terence Crawford, David Benavidez, and Artur Beterbiev, to name a few. Boxing fans will forever miss Canelo when he departs the sport of boxing.
Canelo Alvarez and his early career

Alvarez apparently started boxing at a very young age because of the influence of his brothers. He often went to the Magdaleno Mercado Gymnasium, where his elder brothers trained. Subsequently, this led Alvarez to be drawn to the sport as a teenager.
Canelo Alvarez made his professional boxing debut at the age of 15 when he competed in an official match. It is noteworthy that he did not fail to meet expectations. The two boxers agreed to compete as super lightweights at a weight below 140 pounds and for a four-round bout at the Cholo Larios Arena, Tonalá, Tamaulipas.
In the final round, the referee called off the fight, awarding the victory to Canelo via a technical knockout. His opponent was unable to continue after the numerous shots Canelo had landed. It was his first victory and certainly was not his last one.
